Question About how many miles can I get off of my dual springs?

I don't drive the car to the extreme all the time, but it gets driven hard from time-to-time I have the dual springs that came with the heads from MTI and I'm running a G5X1 cam 228/232 .588/.575 (Hell, I'm not even sure which brand the valve springs are ) But anyways, I'm just trying to see how many miles these things should get out of normal wear and tear.

Thanks,

Nathan M.

They should be checked and measured every 15k miles. It doesn't mean you'll change them but it is part of aftermarket maintenance.
I think MTI uses Manleys but I'm not certain (Their valvetrain package specifies Manleys).

Thanks for the reply,

Also, do you know of any place (I'm thinking maybe Autozone?) that has the spring tester to rent?

Thank you,

Nathan

Your MTI heads use Ferrea springs matched to the Ferrea valves, very stout.

The ISKY 295D are NOT dual springs. The Isky are single springs with an internal dampner which helps with the harmonics of the spring, and won't do anything to save the valve from hitting the piston if the spring breaks.

I would go with a real dual spring like the Crane's, Patriot's, or the Comp 921 for that added insurance of a dual spring and check them at 15k like Predator said.

Don't the Ferrea springs need machining to fit in the spring pocket on stock heads?

Anyways, I would have the Ferrea springs checked at 15k like with other dual springs.

Yes they do, MTI machines the pockets and use custom cups. I agree on the 15k check also.

A dencent tester is pricey. Not something you're going to rent at AutoZone. Any cylinder head shop should have a tester if you take a valvespring in.
