Which cam do I have??
I bought a used cam from my friend and it is supposed to be the Hot cam, but he got it a few years ago and so did my other friend (in fact the orders them at the same time, and when they ordered them they did not have a part number for the hot cam, my 2nd friend works at GM and called GMPP directly to get it. 2nd friend ended up getting the ASA cam.) and they said my car sounds like the ASA cam and it lopes hard! and and gets in a nice grove rumpity rump type, and put done some pretty nice numbers! and when I had it put in they shop said this looks bigger than a hot cam, so is there a way to check it with out pulling the cam and "miking" it? and I have tons of sounds and video clips of the hot cam and only one short video of a ASA cam and it sounds more like the ASA cam but I still dont know??
And didn't they call the ASA cam the "ASA Hot cam" I have heard that a few times also?
Thanks
mike

You could pull a rockerarm off and measure the cam lift from the pushrod,I think the ASA cam has .550 lift and the Hotcam is .525.Maybe you could get the lobe lift numbers for sure.

Meaning we can't tell you jack about what cam u have just by you telling us how hard it lopes and what not. Only way to really find out what kinda specs u have is to pull it out and put it on a cam doctor

Sorry if I sounded like an ***. I just woke up and I had my wisdom teeth pulled the other day So I'm not feelin the greatest, but always be sure to check cams before putting them into your car or your buddies.

OK, well its coming out when the heads get done, but I just wanted to know now.
anyonw know of a good high lift cam being used with 5.3L heads, is the T-rex to big? I dont want to have to mess with the pistons, but tuning will happen and, the head will have 2.00/ 1.57 LS6 vavles and will NOT be shaved, I want it to lope hard and and a good amount of torque.

both work well with milled heads without major ptv clearance issues and both respond VERY well to the 5.3's/ls6 from what i've seen. BUT this is my honest opinion.
