Default Super Street Raptor

I was looking for a converter but I want one for cheap. I know that its often true that "you get what you pay for," but @ 7 an hour I can't justify spending two weeks income on a converter.

www.transmissioncenter.com has the "Super Street Raptor" for 97+ 4l60e and ls1 based engines that can be ordered up to a 2800 stall speed for $295, which is do-able for me.

Everyone talks aftermarket converters up, so I want to find out for myself. How much higher is a 2800 stall speed than my truck's stock verter?

What other verters are there out there for 375 or less?

Default Save Your Money

how much was that hood?

my yank ss4000 was the best mod ive ever done.
if i could start all over id get a 4400.

if you could imagine what your trucks dyno sheet would look like
pick out the amount of torque you would like start with from a dead stop.
then choose the matching rpm.
compromise from there.

Very interesting. Ok.... the hood was expensive (440), but it, and the paint work my dad and I did TOTALY changed the look of the truck so it was worth it. I would just like to know if this particular converter is any comparison to the 700+ dollar ones.

For that price, I'm guessing that it is a reworked stock unit. It will give you some bottom end help, but it will not provide any midrange help nor will it cure the 1-2 upshift dead spot.
I would save your money and buy a real TC in the 3000 - 3500 stall depending upon your goals. A 3500 stall will provide the same gain as you got from your cam+headers+K&N combined. A Yank SS3600 would drive like a 3200 and provide a huge boost. If you can't afford that, look at a TCI 3000 - 3300.

The cure for the upshift dead spot is PCM transmission
part throttle shift settings.

I like my TCI 3000 well enough but I don't think it's up
to tow duty. Don't know how this truck gets used but
you might want one with a stronger clutch (like one
with multiple discs?).

No. I'm talking about the drop in RPM at WOT. You are right that adjusting part throttle shift points helps improve drivability in town.

AT LEAST GET A MIDWEST
and at least 3600, trust, i've had 3400 and 4000.

oddly, the wife preferred the midwest over the yank.

Thanks for the replies!

jimmyblue - I do no towing whatsoever and don't even have any hitch or bumper to tow with, so it will never happen. This is just a street truck that I plan to take to the track once every two months. I jsut want to have a fun truck.

How much was the TCI 3000? I think I saw it on summit for like 470.... which is higher than I want to go, but hey.... I don't wanna go so cheap that a couple hundred more would of made 3 times the difference.
