I want to get the most out of my car and launching plays a big role in getting a good 1/4 time. Ive got a stock rear end and Im too afraid to put ET Streets on it. Ive got Nitto's and I was wondering since I havent been lately, what would be the highest rpm's that I could launch on. Im so afraid of breaking my rearend. Again look at my signature, and tell me why I wouldnt be able to run a low 12 or high 11. Then also tell me what tips and tricks that I may not no to help with my 1/4 time. I also need to know what would be the limit on launching with Nitto's, stock rearend, and all my mods. Thanks

Just simple advice. Go the the track and see if you can find a smile to wear home. You may get a great pass in.

Any tips before I go? Ive heard of powershifting, but I thought that was something that only could be done with old cars. The true definition of that would be, shifting without using the clutch. I dont think that a t-56 will do that. Or is it possible and has anyone ever done it. Well what I do is shift without taking my foot off the gas. To me I feel a difference in power and in faster time. Plus Ive got a good clutch and it bites.

1st tip, relax. It's just driving really. I don't recommend powershifting but, a T-56 should certainly be able to do it. Just shift as quickly as you can, the normal way, for now (that's tip #2). And for #3, since you have Nitto's, AVOID the water box! Go around it and back up to within a few feet of it and STOP! Then do a quick "brushing off" of your tires. Just clean them up a bit, DON'T look for smoke, make it a 4-5 second max burnout. Then just go to the line and light up the bulbs and wait....Till the 3rd yellow comes on. As soon as you see it, LEAVE! So what if you redlight??? You probably won't.
If you decide a Pro-Tree is your thing.... Then .... Well then yer screwed on launch! LOL Cause while you THINK you're doin' this : ... You were REALLY doin' THIS: heheh. It's JUST a drive. R/T's won't mean anything, ET's will. Just give it a shot. Your car may shock you and make ya happy. Good luck.

"Well what I do is shift without taking my foot off the gas."

That IS powershifting.

You wanna run with the big dogs you're going to have to get some real gear in a real rearend and run some real tires.

As far as busting the stocker, it's not just a matter of launch RPM but a matter of clutch release technique. Sidestep that baby, get some wheelhop and you may bust it dropping it at only 4000. I, however, can leave at 6000 safely by NOT sidestepping but rather agressively riding the clutch out letting the RPMs pull back fairly quickly to about 3500-4000 but not below.

Well I dont quite have the money yet for the rearend and gears. So youll have to work with me on my stocker. Explain to me what sidestepping is?? You say I dont want that either. So reving your engine up to 3000 rpm and popping the clutch isnt always the way to do it. How can I get the best launch? Give me the best technique. Oh and how and what does riding the clutch mean?

Can someone please tell me the best way to launch? What things I need to do and things I dont need to do. Explain to me what riding the clutch is. What is the most effective and safe way to launch with a stock rearend and 3.42 gears.

What he means by not riding the clutch is to not just drop it, but to let it out gradually. It will keep your RPM's up out of the hole, and it will make the shock the rearend lesser.

What is holding you back from low 12's/high 11's is pure and simple-
Tires and gear.(mainly tires)But with tires,the rearend won't last.
Take it to the track, low 12's is about 114 MPH.
You could also pull weight out to go faster and reduce the strain on driveline parts.
As far as launching goes,go to the track and test the limits of the tires.
Spinning is better than bogging-find a happy medium between the two.
Depending on how you drive the car and the weather-
I'm GUESSING 12.7-12.9@110...60' in the 2.0-2.1 range.
DO NOT SHIFT WITHOUT THE CLUTCH!
You also do not need to powershift,I don't.
A casual observer will think I have an A4.(I've been asked what converter I'm running)
Go to the track, relax, have fun.
It's a learning process.

If you have all stock internals, then you couldnt have any more stuff than I would, only a good rearend. So what makes you get into the mid 11's. Oh and we both have M6's. I know that you couldnt shift a whole second faster than me. So whats your trick. Tell me more about what is done to your car. Tell me how you launch, what tires are you running, gears, rearend??? Thanks.

Default Not much confidence!

Look at my signature....Ive been looking at people's cars who are interally stock like mine, and I just dont think that I could pull a low 12 or a high 11. Ive got everything you can buy for my car as far as bolt ons and suspension, even an awesome clutch system. The only thing I dont have yet is the LS6 intake manifold. Ive got stock 3.42 gears. I dont think I have the ability to pull somthing that fast, but then again I havent been to the track lately. Can someone help me or give me advice.

I run 4.30 gears with 28x9 ET DRAGS.(moser 12 bolt)
With nitto's, launching will vary on track prep.
Do a fast clutch slip @2k-4k.(tires @ 18-22 psi)with the tires WELL heated.
But experiment with your launching, find out what works for you.

I run mid 11's because my car is very light, and I drive it like a rental.
I launch @6k, wheels off the ground.

See I dont ever think I would want to put a 4.30 gear in my car. The most I would go with is a 4.10 and that would be the maximum for me. Even thats pushing it for me. I want my car to be extremely fast, but then I want to be able to drive it on the street with a decent gas mileage. Then on top of that, I dont want to put a bigger tire on my car. A 28" tire is just massive. I want to keep my stock tires. Maybe down the line something a little bigger, but not that big. I can drive the car, but theres no way that I can launch at 6k rpm like you, I dont have the rear end to do it with. Ill try what you said to do and hopefully I can be in the low 12's.

with those mods you'll run 12.7-13.0's not anywhere near a 11.

Terry99TA Did you happen to look at my signature. I ran a 12.8 with just a lid and a flow. Ive have done numerous amount of mods since then. How could you predict that I will walk out of there with a 12.7 when Ive got everything you can do to the car externally. On top of that, I have suspension work done and an awesome clutch system. Look at my signature and give me a second opinion.
