which shifter would I be better off with the b&m hammer with a handle that has a trans brake button or the cheetah (I have never seen the cheetah)

any pics of the cheetah in a f body?

I will be running a rossler th400 with trans brake and manual reverse pattern vb.

I have a Cheetah shifter in my 2000. Mine was an A4 to begin with and install was a breeze. It actually bolted right up to 3 of the 4 original A4 shifter holes. I bought a 6 spd top of the center consle and did a little modifing and it looks fine.

I got the cheetah after hearing of the B&M guys sometimes accidentaly going to second when they didnt want too.

I just had too many folks recommend the Chettah for me NOT to get it.

i have a B&M Pro ratchet on my mustang, have used B&M Megashifter, and have driven my friend's car with a B&M Hammer. i by far prefer the Cheeta SCS that i have on my firebird <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

My favorite of all used to be the quicksilver.It has the smoothest motion of all of them.

Cheetah is ok but I replaced mine with a quicksilver.Also I like the fact that you have more dask clearence with the ratchets than the Cheetah.

I went with the Cheetah, it's a great shifter IMHO. No unnecessary parts to break or wear out, like with some ratchet type shifters.

The install sucked. It would have been easy if I wasn't so picky about how it looked in the stock console. It was a bear to get installed perfectly, it just barely fit.

I've never used the cheetah. I love my B&M Hammer though. And I dont know how people are accidentally shifting it into second when they dont want to. I never have had ANY trouble with it at all. It was pretty easy to install and IMO Looks the best of any ratchet shifters installed in late model f-bodies. Looks damn near stock. Here's a few pics of it installed

yeah, the Hammer certainly does look better installed than the Cheeta, my buddy has his Hammer installed just like that too.

fwiw, as far as ratchet shifters go, i like my B&M Pro Ratchet better than the Hammers that i have used. but i still would choose the Cheeta above both of them

for my car i just removed the console and parking brake, and installed the Cheeta on the floor and used the little "command center" console the sell for it that has all the toggle switches. my buddy down the road just yesterday installed a cheeta in a factory console the exact same way Brady did, with the shifter boot around the base of the shifter and it came out pretty nice as well

Folks tend to giggle at you when you launch and then accidently reengage the t-brake <img border="0" title="" alt="[Embarrassed]" src="gr_emb.gif" /> . I had it on the flex cable at first. but had the bad habit of holding my hand in a position where when I launched it would knock my hand against the shifter, and kick it into 2nd.

I walked around the pits, and looked at what alot of the racers were using. saw alot of setups similar what I posted above. The button is located in a very comfortable position for me. When I launch my hand is behind the shifter, and my action to grab the shifter is forward ( not backward ) so I don't tend to accidently pull the shifter into second when grabbing it.

I've been using the Hammer shifter for about 15 months now. Only trouble was that it tended to get loose and wobly often and had to be retightened. Used a little loctite last time. Been fine ever since. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />

Never had ANY trouble with the functionality. It goes into the next gear with each yank back. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />
