Default Race Suspension.... Soft rear or stiff rear????

I have heard to different sides of this argument, and both sidesm ake good points.

For best launches, shoud the rear be soft, and the front stiff, or vice versa?

I've heard alot of opinion, but I am having trouble finding any hard fact as to which is correct. Anyone know of a place I can research this stuff, and get a str8 answer?

Thanks in advance.

Short answer: As stiff as you can go.

Long answer: I find that I can typically only run my rear QA1's at 4/4 and that I will spin a little with them at 5/5... Only time I went 5/5 was at NPR and then it was like a mid 1.4 but the track hooked like 20% better than what it's like up here in IL.

Depends on how good the track is hooking, but usually stiffer is better.

You waste time sitting at the line waiting for the suspension to compress. Softer suspension does typically soften the blow to the tires as it slows the tranfer of energy. So on the street maybe that would be the way to go, I dont know?

I have to run soft in the rear, normally 3 in back 6 up front.

I tried soft in the front, and stightly stiffer in the rear. But, because i'm turbo w/ a 6 speed i would get a nice initial hit then the front would come down too fast and unload the rear. That would equal spin and loss of boost. then i'm down 350 RWTQ until the boost could come back up.

Letting the rear sit hard, and the front slow the rebound made a huge difference. mid 1.4 60's were the result.

It's different for everone, experiment

Our research has shown similar results. Most cars prefer a stiff setting to prevent unwanted suspension compression. However, in a traction limited situation, such as street racing, a softer spring/shock will allow for a smoother "hit" to the tire.
