What 10 bolt posi for drag racing?
I know I should get a 12 bolt , but I have to keep the 10 bolt for now. The wife grenaded the stock T2 torsen so I am due for a new posi. I am staying with 3.23 gears and I would like to know which would hold up the best with 1.46 60 fts. The Torsen T2R or the Eaton posi? I'd appreciate any input. I know the Eaton can be rebuilt where as the TR2 is trashed once it's damaged. I want to be sure the Eaton will hold up to the Launches of mt YST3500 and ET Drags. TIA.

I am also in the market to buy a posi unit tomorrow. A spyder gear is screwed up in mine and plus in need a 3 series for some 4.10s. Wondering if i should just get the one from SLP for 100 bucks or is there a better option. I have the stud girdle on the way so that should help it withstand a little.

James, the Zexel-Torsen is the stronger of the two. The spider gears in the auburn/eaton type posi rears are crap and break much easier than the worm gears found in the Torsen.
SLP used to sell the Torsens for like $99. Until you upgrade rearends, its either another Torsen or a spool if they make them for 10-bolts.
10-bolts SUCK! They will live longer if you can keep any wheelhop from happening. Did you ever run the car on stock tires and get wheelhop? Maybe that caused part of the damage. With slicks, it might live longer.

I appreciate the input guys and boy do I wish a 12 bolt was an option. That darn money tree doesn't grow fast enough to keep up.lol.
Coach- A Spool isn't realistic for us since the car is driven everyday when it's not broke. That would take care of my problems though. Where is that 10 second pass? There was calling your name this weekend (-1400 DA).
Tony-I agree about the worm gears being the weak link. The T2R looks to be the most durable in that sense also. I think the internal posi gears are what shattered on my stocker and the T2R should be a bit meatier in that area....I hope. I think you are right about the wheel hop also , because the Nittos create a sizeable amount of wheel hop when we run them. Well , now to try to locate a T2R. Thanks!! Any ideas or any more opinions?

Reviving old thread...
I will be needing something before spring. Anybody have good/bad exp with any units. I believe there are some new units with worm/helicial (sp?) type gears. Any exp with these ?
I will be at the PRI show in a week and a half (www.performanceracing.com), and will be asking some questions as well.
Car has run a best of 11.95 @ 115 w/ 1.66 60'
Yank SS3800 w/ 3.23's car is 50/50 street/strip ~3650#
Probably will change to 3.42's at same time of limited slip/posi change.
Thanks !

They are lighter and more power efficient, but it's only a matter of time before it go BOOM!
In our local club, one of my bud's 10 bolt (a quick A4) just puked. He took pics...

Boy, this one was from a long time ago.LOL. I shattered a gear in the original Torsen so I built the 10 bolt up to strengthen the weak areas of the 10 bolts. I went with an Eaton HD posi, same 3.23 gears, solid pinion spacer, TA stud girdle and I welded up the axle tubes to the housing. I have since pulled 1.43-1.44s (1.47-1.49s average) and we have pounded hard on it. As you know we race a lot and so far so good. We also stepped up to the PT4200 which seems to be a bit softer on the launch, but no signs of fatigue and that was about 2 years ago. Some say were are lucky, but I call it an efficient and somewhat durable option. I don't plan on spraying the car so wheel hop would be the killer, but our suspension mods should pretty much prevent that.

If you are looking for cheap, the T2R probably ain't it. I think I paid $500 at Goldenwest for one. Excellent autocross and drag unit, but look at the casting carefully before installing. Problems with porosity in the critical ring gear flange area make me refuse the first two units. Deburr all sharp edges before installing. About 400 M6 passes on it and it never broke, but it was only a mid 12 car.

I've been looking for a full spool for my 10 bolt but I don't think one is made by anybody. I'm still running the stock Auburn and I think its seen its better days. I think I could get by with a full spool being that my car is no longer street driven and having the A4. With c-clip elims., and upgraded axles I think the 10 bolt would live w/ my stock internal setup. May contact Richmond and see what they could do. They are about 15 miles from me......

Um, I would like to know where you can get a Moser 9 inch for $900. It is more than that for just the housing...no center section, gears, differential, etc.
Total cost is at least $2000 from what I have seen.
