Thumbs down I need reassurance (cliff notes included)

So I made a whoopsie last night. I'm driving home from my gf's house and run into what looked like a 600cc bike that wants to race. (We're at 171st and Harlem going north for locals) Anyways, light turns green I launch like a pro. I came as close to dead hooking on the street as you can. I'm actually ahead of the bike thru 1st-3rd. Then I go to shift out of third, I push in the clutch and forgot to shift into 4th. (I was paying too much attention to the bike)Then I hammer the gas and wonder why I'm not speeding up. Turns out that I left it in 3rd and was bouncing off of the rev limiter pretty hard. (abuot 5700 rpm) I know I'm an idiot. After about 2 seconds I realize what I did and shift. Surprisingly I was still within killing range of the bike. So now I'm in 4th and instead of doing the smart thing and shutting it down I figure I'll run down this bike. So I did. I got ahead of him going abuot 110 and then shut it down. I don't know if he was going all out, but I beat the bike.

Now I know the rev limiter is there for a reason and I listened to the car last night and this morning. Nothing seems to be out of whack but with out tearing apart the engine everything should be okay right? BTW stock valvetrain and internals.

Cliff notes: Raced a bike and burried the tach needle in the rev limiter.

First off why even bother racing a bike and secondly it took you 2 seconds of bouncing off the rev limiter to figure out your next move? Do your car a favor and swap the M6 for an A4. If you don't hear any odd noises and it still runs good, you probably got lucky. Just joking about the tranny swap, but dude, calm down and pay attention to your driving next time you race.

I don't know what it was..........I just spaced out. It was also 2am. It took me about a second to realize something was wrong and a second to correct it.

i think youd be OK.

stock rev limiters are there for a reason. at 5700 i think you would be fine. I haven seen people at the track in f-body's bounce off the limiter for 20 secs doing a burnout

now with a cam and 6600 rpm, you might have a problem

The cam is sitting in my room waiting to go in (tsp 231/237).

I've done that before... in a non rev-limited engine. I felt power fall off, and I'm thinking WTF?! ...until I actually look down.

I'm so lucky nothing let go.

I had bent pushrods when I did my cam swap and I mean bent from doing a 3-2 shift that was supposed to be a 3-4. At least pull the valve covers off and pull the pr's out and check them out. It's not that hard of a job and could save some heart ache in the long run depending on how far you are away from doing the cam swap.

The cam will be going in hopefully next month if I can decide on heads.

Raced a 600? Those are low-high 11 second bikes Bri. Maybe it was a dream, for your valvetrain's sake, I hope so. Ha. See ya.

That's why I said I don't know if he was going all out. What size was the bike you beat?

I raced a GSXR 600 with slip on and put 3 cars on him. Then raced a GSXR1000 and held him off 1/4 mile by a car with 5 and the leave. They're fast bikes bro.

The rev limiter is there to save you. Nothing should be hurt. The problem comes in when somebody downshifts when they meant to upshift, then the engine over-revs. A rev limiter can't help you in that situation. Since you were still in the same gear, no problem.

It's been a few days and everything seems fine. No wierd noises or ticking. Power is still there. Hopefully I won't be dumb enough to do this again.

Yeah I doubt that was a very mean 600, I have a 2003 R6 that smoked the **** out of a camed/150 shot SS. Also I've seen a bone stock R6 that was lowered run a 10.8 in the 1/4. Lowered 1000's with a good rider are cabable of high to mid 9's.

You will probably get a misfire code if you have one(pr) bent or broken. At least my bud with an M6 did after his.

Not too hard to change out anyway.
