Help with 3.73 gears
A few months ago I bought richmond 3.73 ring and pinion with installation kit. I went to a few shops to get some prices for the swap. Anyways, a local mechanic that I trust advised that I need a new carrier to go from 2.73 to 3.73. Here are my questions.
1. What the hell is a carrier?
2. Do I need a carrier?
3. Can I just go down to a 3.42 and use my exisiting carrier.
Please help thx in advance

You have a 2-series carrier that is good for 3.08 and down. You need a 3-series carrier for 3.23 and up.

I'll look closer at the box and see if it says anything about a 2 or 3 carrier. I know I told the guy I had GU2 2.73. I thought he knew his ****. Afterall he was the mechanic at a dealership that only sells f-bodies & Stangs.
