Question Can I check piston slap by pulling oil pan

I have had a load knocking sound in my engine since I had a cam and headers put in last year and it's driving me nuts. Speed Inc ( who did install) said it's piston slap but now I am looking at putting Nitrous on my car and I want to be sure that is what it is before I spray. I've had numerous Old School Car Guys tell me it sounds like a wrist pin or connecting rod. The sound is definately more pronounced on the front drivers side of the engine.

What I would like to know is:
1. Can I verify piston slap by pulling oil pan and checking? Is there room? How hard?
2. If it was a rod could see above as well.
3. If can be done by removeing pan, how is best way to do so, tips, tricks, suggestion.

Thanks in advance for any input.

No . Piston slap is much more complicated than that to diagnois/confirm.
The LS motors have it more due to their skirtless piston design, but it comes down to the piston fit to the bore. That is something you want to check with a dis-assembled motor.

well if the sound only became aparant w/ the cam and header install it could have something to do w/ that, are your rockers torked down good, are your headers sealed to the head good, do you have a cracked valve spring or bent pushrod(I hope you put some chromoly's while you were there), could it be any of those things?, or improper header fitment?, just tryin to help

I can't see anywhere along the head where it looks like the headers are leaking.

I had Comp Chromoly Pushrods and 918's installed at same time.

I have not pulled valve covers to check rockers or pushrods. How hard is it to pull the covers and check rods, springs, and rockers?
