from a racer, engineering client of mine. After reading this article I know why I have lifter noise in the morning. This guy tested Mopar filters but the filter construction will be similar for the Chevy filter. I thought the info would be of interest to just about everyone at the site so I figured I would pass along the link. Make sure and read his "oil filter review" page as well.

so, basically, I'll stick with my good ole AC Delco filter. Can't beat it for the price!

Actually you can. The Walmart Supertech is better than the AC Delco, and it's cheaper.

Correct, however filtration is not as important on a hard driven car, flow is much more important. If you drive at full throttle a lot, you'll see higher engine wear if you use a filter that does not flow as well.

here's a question...
tpis lists a donaldson endurance filter at $15.00
this does not appear to be the one in the test.
has anybody used this filter?
(side note. i called donaldson, they claim they don't have an endurance filter
for a pf44....)

Patman is correct,most of my racer buddies look to flow before filtration.If u change your oil every 2 to 3 K is doesnt really matter as much about filtration.I run 3QTS 10/30 Valvoline Racing/3QTS of Valoline 10/30 with a KN and have 40PSI at idle and 70PSI under WOT.I just change it out every 3K or if I'm at the track 2 times in a row.

Cool. I've been buying those Supertech filters for a while. Today I bought a Parts Plus filter. I forget who they said made it, but it looked well made inside and the gasket was well fastened to the filter.

Thanks for the input guys. I guess filtration and flow will always be close to inversely proportional. I don't beat the hell out of my car on a daily basis, and I run longer intervals with my Redline oil. In my case, I'll take the better filtration over flow I suppose....

Patman, I thought at WOT you are buypassing the filter regardless, is that true?

Also does anyone know the answer to JimmyBlue's question - is the oil psi gauge reading upstream or downstream of the filter? If you put a poor flowing filter in there, is the reading going to be higher or lower?

Check out the AC Delco PF 35L. Cheap, high flow, large capacity and works great with a remote filter mount.

I believe the filter you are referring to is not an Endurance filter. I believe it is the Donaldson P551307. It is the same size as the UPF44 and the PF44. I have used it before.

It is true, however a more restrictive filter will still restrict the flow in the time it takes for the bypass valve in the block to react. So there is still momentary hindrence to flow if you're running a more restrictive filter.

if you check out the picture on the tpis site shows a black & gold
filter that says endurance and part of the part number. (F09)

and throw in 1 quart of 20-50 synthetic, along with the rest and your smooth sailing for 4000 miles.
remeber the old timers never had oil analysis or fancy testing technics.. its like washing your face.. use soap water lather then rinse
this is not what we need to worry about.. the Ls1 is better than that.. unlessyou sustain max lat G for 30 seconds.. yeah ok
