Default Fact Or Fiction

I have heard some people say that when new headers are installed you should heat treat them by "normal"(slow) driving then let them cool then heat them up again.....and let them cool and then you can give her hell.

wondering b/c my headers/ory will be on next tuesday.

Thanx

I've heard you do that for new valve springs, but not headers.

I haven't heard that but I do know that you are suppose to recheck the torque on the bolts after a few miles of driving.

you "heat treat" new valve springs by warming them up to normal operating temps(idle for ~ 20mins), then let them cool completely(6-12 hours, basically overnight), then you warm them back up to operating temps again, and you can romp on them.

with headers, all you gotta do is install them. and as you do with pretty much anything you install on your car, after a few miles of driving, re-check the torque on the bolts. other then that, you're good to go.

Yea, if you don't they'll back out and you could blow a gasket.....mine were pretty close to backing out on the 8 and 7 cylinders because I couldn't get to em', put the car on a lift and they were VERY close to falling out

headers require no heat cycling, just install and go. bolts dont need to be retorqued if you tighten them down in the right sequence and tq to spec.
