Default LS6 cast aftermarket heads

I have talked to my service manager about the LS6 conversion foe the GTO. He is all for it. Well, I've been checking around a little and have come to the conclusion that many aftermarket heads are really LS6 heads(casting #243) that have been improved with better goodies. So I asked my SM about this and he said that as long as the heads were GM and were as good or better quality wise(upon his inspection of specs) that he didn't see a problem with using them.

This being said, what would you guys suggest, trying to stay in the same price range as the LS6 factory heads?

Thanks, Jason

Well most of dont know the cost of a set of LS6 heads. If you get ls6 243's you will be spending at least $2500. Most core charges are $1200.

You could probably pick up a used set of stock LS6 heads for around $900. New they would be a little more. Ported LS6 heads are gonna run you a pretty penny if you don't already have a core set to trade in.

LOL, most SM dont know **** about cars...he'll check the specs out huh...I'd be suprised if he even knows what any of them mean. You'd be better off getting a set of budget ported LS1 heads...like the patriot ones. Ported LS6 heads are a waste of money unless you are going to go for an all out car. Decent heads with a nice cam will give you a good combo.

I think SDPC (a site sponsor) had an LS6 conversion kit for sale a while back. You might call them up.

Certainly you can get more performance for less money than an LS6 cam and heads but it is hard to argue with the reliability and piece of mind knowing that you are still backed by a GM warranty with good old GM parts.

As another option LPE has their H/C package on sale right now. I think is was $2499 or something like that. Your service manager can't argue with an LPE package. Can he?

Good luck.

Gain would not reflect the expense without a cam.

If at all possible, I would just wait if you want Ls6 heads, with all these cars coming stocks with 243 heads now, the core charges are going to go WAY down
