Default My Camaros S2 Heads and experimental "cam only" dyno report.

I did the last dyno session at 7:00 last night for the JPR S2 HVLD design heads with the Thunder Racing 224/.561 cam last night, the numbers were 421/403 SAE. After my dyno session, I went over the math one more time and realized the head flow numbers are more geared towards our new "cam only" camshaft so I went to the shop and threw in our soon to be marketed JPR (work in progress) "cam only" camshaft, Big thanks to Paul @ Thunder Racing for putting up with all my stupid questions!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> . This morning I installed Vic from Mufflex's Thunder Racing 224 cam and it was off to JD's for dyno tunning in the early afternoon.

450 RWH/ 411 RWT SAE was the final numbers through a 2.5 custom made Y pipe through the factory 2.78 piped cut out and another small detail that we are working on to be released later. Our "cam only" cam is smaller and more conservitive speced than the numbers I have heard being tossed around so far.

I have a couple re-adjustment details to straighten out with this cam now that I see how it works in the power department before we will have them abvailable with specs, trust me, P-V is not a problem <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> . 2MUCHPWR will have my sheet to post soon, there coverlayed over my 410/402 JPR S1-TR224 sheet for comparison.

Quick break down of the RPM vs Power:

390 TQ @ 4,300 first 400 TQ @ 4,500 Peak 411 TQ @ 4,800

325 HP @ 4,300 first 400 RWH @ 5,200 Peak 450 @ 6400ish and holds 450 till 6,700.

Joe.

So its the cam that was orignally intended for cam only usage with your stage 2 heads at the 450 number right? Those are kickass numbers!

PS expectations are going up for the 387 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Joe what heads is running that he put down 450 rwhp w/ the TR224? That has to be close to the best ever results with that cam. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> Can you FEEL the difference between the S1 and S2? Nice numbers with you auto. Talk to you soon. It looks like Tues is not going to happen. Weather looks crappy. Later. <img border="0" alt="[driving]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_driving3.gif" />

Bear u are alittle confused.
Joe has a NEW cam he has designed and its for a stock headed car primarily but he wanted to see how it would work with his NEW S2 porting,Guess Joe's pretty happy with these kind of results.

450RWHP/411RWTQ is INSANE/IMPRESSIVE..
I gotta find out about this camshaft...

Boy is it refereshing not to fight and argue anymore.
I know when I see something good happening and Joe is doing good things and working hard to provide LS1 owners with good cost effective products.

Joe you gained 11 rwhp from S1--->S2. Then you removed your 224 and put in your new "Experimental" JPR cam and you gained 29 RWHP. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> Please tell me I am NOW understanding this correctly,Thanks Joel <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> Joe this would be amazing!!! Please dont be timid with details. I don't mean Cam specs, more like, When would it be finished? What cost? , and uhh I dunno, What will this do for me & the pig? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> Crazy Numbers if this is what I hope it is. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

Wow those are good numbers, what does the HVLD in "JPR S2 HVLD" mean though? Are you porting these heads a little differently?

29 RWHP over the TR224 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> .

Just a few months ago the TR-224 was considered the king of the hill, these cam developments are <img border="0" alt="[pimp]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_pimp.gif" /> .

Will this cam peak around the same place with stock heads Joe?

Great work, Congrats!

Thanks for replies!
It was a great day for us yesterday <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" /> . Before my car gets labled "dyno queen" check out the dyno sheet when it's posted, I'm making more usable low end torque & horsepower than ever from my last bests that were great. I gained another 10-15 horse & TQ on the lowest part of the scale where it's usefull, so it's not just a high peak dyno number. First pull off the street with a late start was 446/408 SAE after I confirmed in the base AF. JS, your detailer friend Victor? with the blown silver C4 was there to witness about 3-4 pulls in the high 440-450+ RWH range and hit the best of 453 RWH cooled down but the Vert or trans <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> had a hard time holding the motor in the middle of that sample, spiked, then plained out again so the run was scrubbed. I dynoed through the cut-out, no dropped Y pipe or open headers <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> it's ALL legit, just the way I would run it at the track.

Ezss:
This "what if?" cam spec goes partly against conventional thinking also, We designed it for the "cam only" application that about 3-4 sponsors have been batteling with lately, I felt the lobe fill area was sufficient enough to strike a ballance in our new runner design without concequence to torque output anywhere in the power band, so I threw it in blindly just to see if I could best my RWH average of 419 RWH SAE with the Thunder cam and same 10.8 S2 heads. YOUR old heads now have our JPR S2 HVLD design in them now. I don't want to speculate what your JPR 387 all bore may do at the rear wheels till it's dynoed but it should be very good.

Bear:
You already have the HVLD design from your recent head re-port, just add cam <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> . At 6,000 RPM, I gained 28-29 RWH and 25 RWT there alone over my old TR224 410/402 SAE or more exactly 400 TQ, not just a peak value and I'm not even edit tunned yet.

JS:
Your right on the money with your reply, I have one cam refinement to adjust and re-test so it should maintain the power band but with better low end or may just get better across the board? BTW, my idle is set at 900 with a tinge of roll once or twice at a stop light, do I have to just live with that? or I will have Ken at ESP edit that for me this week because I'm lost at this point.

Thanks Vince!

Mike K:
The JPR S2 HVLD destinction is our highest quality flow LS1 runners to date, it stands for "High Velocity Low Drag" We have about 5 sets out there right now and have proven to make more power over our conventionally ported S2's, it's our own unique twisted bowl design that also goes against the grain of common head porting unless everyone can get 81 cfm @ .100 and 308-311 @ .550 in a compact runner.

JFM:
Yes, those are all my A4 numbers with -0- learn in time on a H/C install marathon, 3 combos within 2 weeks.

M6 best of to date that represents an accurate average.

S1 417/397 Comp 218 cam
S2 432/408 Thunder Racing 224

I will admitt, our S1's have always been a tough act to follow bang for the buck though <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> .

Joe.

congrats on the excellent #'s Joe. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" /> I bet you can do a h/c swap in record times. Hell, you should set up a race and see whos the fastest h/c installer. Forget the track times and dyno #s <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Joe, do you think I would gain much going to this new cam over my MMS 224/224 cam? I have your S2 heads, but not sure which design.

It sounds like you have a nice package there. One question, will it pass the sniffer in CA? If it can, I will be very interested in getting this cam.

Joe are the stage 2's I just ordered the new type?,, if so I really can't wait for my JPR heads to get here... Also I can't wait to here more about this cam. Sounds like a really good combo. Is someone in line already to get this cam put in so we can have a dyno comparison?

I just wanted to drop a note in here regaurding this package after talking to some folks yesterday.

By no means was I trying to say or imply that everyone will see the exact same results, but with the same package and excellent tunning will be very close if not dead on, everyones car is a little different, like the topic says, "My Camaro results" I am testing other parts on my car also as I mentioned in my first post <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> I had no idea what this cam would do when I installed it, but I'm kinda happy with it so far. I spoke to Ken @ ESP and he is going to call me back with an appointment date for a dyno session.

To answer some questions:

I am running 10.8 compression.
I have no idea if this cam will pass emmisions. There is one or two revisions to be made to it to become more A4 friendly so I don't know when it will be ready for release.
This is a custom ground cam.
It idles pretty decent at 900 rpm, but could use a tinge more rpm hot and cold in an A4.
I got 24 MPG on the highway with it yesterday cruising at 65-70 MPH.
My car is obnoxious at WOT even through the factory cat back pipe <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
This won't start a $#!t storm, my specs will be released and it seems to really like our new styled S2 heads, it has yet to be tested in it's "cam only" designation which it was originally inteded for.

I will keep the updates comming.
Joe
