Ratech hard pinion spacer
Anybody out there who's built a stock 10-bolt
with this kind of pinion spacer rather than the
crush sleeve? Looking to find out whether it's
kept you from developing pinion play (like crush
sleeve will, if you keep hammering on it), are
there any downsides to it (aside from more
setup effort), etc.

I used it with my 10 bolt and my first set of 4.10s. It was a PITA to get setup right. I decided to use a stock tupe crush collar my second time around though. My first set of gears broke and my newer set is still going strong, even after some 1.7 60's. IMO, they dont really do much. I've never developed loose bearings in 60k with my M6.

it's all about how you set it up. If you are able to get the crush sleeve crushed to just the right amount, you're fine. From my experience, it's better to run the spacer and shims than the crush sleve. We've seen many 12 bolt rears ruin bearings in high torque application. But hey, that's just my $.02

Yup, I use them and have been for 15 plus years. The big thing is the set-up, just as many have stated.....and that it can be a PITA. But, in high load applications, I would recommend nothing else. The stock type crush sleeve's will still compress when the differential is beaten on.

I am running one as we speak. The pinion hasnt moved around since we set it up and I have made approx 4 passes on ET streets leaving at 4.5-5k. I will be retunring to th track tomorrow to test it out some more.

I am running on en my 10-bolt with 4.10's. My installer said it would be more difficult to set up, but will give you a little more peace of mind. It will not make the 10-bolt strong (can't hurt though), but if you have it apart why not put something a little better back in. It is behind 381 rwhp and a McLeod Street Twin. Lets hope it helps some.

I just did a gear/carrier swap on my stock rear end (details here) and my factory inner pinion bearing and shim had spun so I decided to use the Ratech solid spacer kit. It's true it's a pain to setup but I figure I'm pretty easy on my car (I've only been to the drag strip once) and I still had problems with the stock crush sleeve.
The kit is pretty cheap ($20) and it sounds like you're not worried that it's a bit more work to setup so I'd say go for it.
