Default What would cause a motor to knock?

I stripped down my old knocking 103k ls1 yesterday and could not find anything thing at all. All the rods where still there and all the rod bolts where still there. I did notice a good amount of Aluminum shavings in the oil pan. All the cylinders looked great, and no noticeable damage to the crank, Could bad rod bearings cause it to knock so loud you cant hear anything else around you? Any info would be great, Thanks chris

Rod bearing, check the cylinder heads and pistons for any excessivly clean spots where it was hitting.

Is 1 (or more) of the pistons 'loose' on it's wrist pin?

Just because you can't noticeably see something, doesn't necessarily mean they're not bad. Maybe you weren't getting oil to one or more of the bearings for a short time. Cam bearings? Rod bearings?
