Default recomended cam...

i called comp cams today and they spec'd me a 220/224 .530/.534 on a 112lsa 1600-6600rpm range and 918 spring's....which the size sounds great, considering my application;sticking with stock heads, daily driver, gonna do 4.10's,as well as benefit the N2O.But can i go w/ a different company for more quality, or just better performance?or is this a good set-up?TIA P.S. Smog is not an issue;obviously.

Whats wrong with Comps quality?Where you think all these (custom cams) are coming from?Well not all!Seriously Comp makes good stuff, but I"m not saying to buy that cam either.

The 918"s that you hear about on here are Comp"s, for that cam they would be fine as they are are rated to .600 lift.I think the cams ok, but if you get one from a vendor I think they could tell you a little more about it and maybe match one to your needs better=more personal touch.I think that cam would work fine for what you described you wanted.

I bought my comp cam from Thunder. Great cam's, and STELLAR springs IMO.

well what exactly do you want from the cam? drag/street? you want a nice little bump in horsepower or you want a slightly severe kick in the ***? the 224 will work nicely for you i think, especially on a 112lsa. it will give you a decent lope, althought you won't have the split that you might want for nitrous. you could always go bigger and get the tr230/224 for the n2o.

do you want a reverse split(230/224)or a regular split(224/227)for nitrous? i thought it was a regular split.....how well would i benefit from a TSP231/237? is that too big?will i sacrifice a lot of TQ? im going to be running stock heads,LT's,4.10's,3" TD's,i usually spin it now; with the LT's,to about 5800,mostly street, but some strip, really benefit the N2O,and be a great N/A cam.thanks for any help.

The 220/224 530/534 112* is the cam I'm running now. That cam, most free mods and bolt ons, and the stock tune got me 366/353 or so on a Dynojet and 12.23 @ 111 on drag radials w/ a 9" and .370. It idles well, good mannered, and performs well. Since then, I added 1.85 rockers, and S2 5.3 heads. We made 390/390 on a mustang dyno on only 40# of fuel. I expect just over 400 from it on a good tune.

Since my car is a weekend warrior, I'm looking in to a "max effort" cam. Probably the Magic Stick. Soon this cam and rockers will be for sale. I like this cam, but I'm getting a little greedy now.

that was my bad, you generally want the traditional split AFAIK for n2o. thats why the 231/237(for example) likes nitrous so much. if you want a severe kick in the ***, then i would suggest going with something higher in the range. the 231/237 might even be a good choice for you, tho any cam with a larger exhaust duration and a nice tighter LSA would work well for you.

thanks cyphur,i was looking at that tsp 231/237;i think thats what im gonna go with.should i use crane duals or comp 918's? i heard in another thread that the 918's are good to .625 lift would i be safer with duals? also any other mod's i have toi do with that cam?is it a good idea to go ahead and change to LS6 oil pump, roller timing chain and lifters,if so what do you recommend?thanks again cyphur. and will the larger exhaust duration benefit in N/A also?

well just so you know upfront, i may be a little biased towards this cam, i have one sitting on my dresser, waiting to get installed. she'll get slid in as soon as i get my new clutch thats gettin put in at AMS broken in(cuz i know i won't be able to resist a burn-out with the new cam...so why even try to). i also have a rollermaster adjustable double timing chain, and a new ported ls6 oil pump sitting in my room waitin to get put on when i do my cam swap as well. not to mention hardened pushrods. i'm going with the patriot gold dual valve springs. they come with new seats, titanium retainers, seals, the works. oh, and a set of yella terra 1.7 roller tip shaft mounted rocker arms. now by no means do you have to get rocker arms. thats just something i picked up, cuz my motor has 62k miles on it, and i got a mad crazy good deal on them. so yes, i have quite an install ahead of me. i am complementing this cam as much as my budget will allow me at the current time. unfortunately since i don't have a ******* job, i can't get headers shame on me, yes i know. they're my next mod.

anyhow, sorry i wrote another novel...just tryin to help. this is what i've learned while on my path to a cam choice and buildup to install...hope it helps in your journey. if you have any questions, refer them to the search button first, then post them second

i just installed the same exact stuff in my sig, still trying to break in the valve springs, and still need cpu mods, but i can tell you that the cam WILL idle with a m6!! you will need the cpu mods, but it will be ok until then, i didn't even have to touch my idle screw. is this the comp 54-416-11? that is the one i got and rpm kit. so far I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER!!!!!!!!! i am a daily driver and gonna get my pcm done on labor day with a dyno tune. let me know if you want the numbers from the dyno. hope this helps.

The only other spring I would consider running are the ones we got in our 57 chevy Nex-Tec Manleys....1400 hp and about 1200 lbs of torque and they are perfect after 30 runs this season...we drive it up to about 7600 rpm...

you should not have a problem finding a 231/237 for pretty cheap in the FS section. i've seen them going for ~250 or so. which is a pretty damn good price if you ask me. i'm gonna shoot you a pm with some info about where i got/am getting some of my parts. i've found some wicked deals.
