98 TA Vs an AWD 240 HP GTI ?
my car - 98 TA / Auto 3.23s / SLP Lid / K&N Filter / GMMG Exhaust
the GTI - AWD / 240 HP / Stick
I raced this car today two times from a dig... and this is how it went:
TA respresented by =
Golf represented by *
Stopped at a light...
=
*
0 - 15
=
..*
15 - 45ish
..=
..*
45 - 110ish
.................................................. .......................... =
..........*
That was outcome on both races.. He got me on the launch [damn AWD], and I reeled him in around 30-35 and walked him after 45ish..
I got a chance to have a word and he mentioned it was an AWD with 240 hp and Stick.. I asked him if it was a Turbo and he said " nope.."
Trying to find some info on VW's website but they don't list such a car .. it looked like any other golf except for the dual exhaust outlets that looked OEM [no ricey bumble bee crap..]
I'm wondering if he was indeed stock or no..
Anyone else raced this kind of GTI lately ?
Also, do any of you with Autos manually downshift if racing from a roll ? I've noticed how the car doesn't seem to downshift on it's own if I go WOT at 40-45 mph.. it'll just stay in Overdrive and pull ever so slowly
the GTI - AWD / 240 HP / Stick

That sounds like the VW R32. It has a 3.2 L V6. They are a low 14 second car.

Well, GTI is still a golf... Its kinda like all squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares.... All GTI's are golf's, but not all golfs are GTI's...
The R32 has a stroked VR6... Its a pretty decent car... good handling, decent speed, pretty good fuel economy, but a bit heavy and pricey... If I had the money, I would buy a used C5 instead...

Hmm. I wonder if it's called the Golf R32 overseas and the GTI here.
In any event......that VW Flash site for the R32 is annoying as hell.
It's a nice little ride and it prices itself right with the WRX STi and the Evo...but it's short on power compared to those two.....and a 20k SRT4 has identical performance.

There is a blue one that runs around here. It is pretty slow, the AWD and weight really kill it. From a stop light, he had me for about a couple seconds, then I blew by. From a roll, he fared a little better than stock WRX's......
Good kill though!

Sayin' the GTi isn't a Golf, is like saying an SR.T-4 isn't a Neon, and an SRT-6 isn't a Crossfire. You get my point. Anyways, they are decent cars, but waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too overpriced.
