Default How bad do ET streets drift on the topend?

We were out at the track today prepping it for its first races in over two years and I was shooting the **** with some mustang guys and they were telling me that the ET streets cause the car to drift on the topend. How bad is this and is it pretty freaky? I just bought a set of 26x11.5-15s and they will be mounted for the races on saturday but I need to know what to expect on an f-body since they said they only know how their stangs react. I am use to running BFG drag radials but needed to step up to a better hooking tire now that I am putting down way more HP/TQ than before. What is the "recommended" psi to run with these on an auto.
What they were telling me freaked me out but it'll be nice to finally run on the track after a two year delay.
Thanks for the help,
J

I had a set of 26x10x15 et streets, they had a lot of top end drift, especially when at like 15psi...

My new Hoosier 27x11.5x15's arent that bad yet, but I haven't had them close to the 15psi range yet...

I also had a set of 26x10.5x15 ET Streets. I had those things down to 11psi once to get them to hook (note I won't even do that again). It was a bit scary on the topend above 100mph. My new 26x10x15 ET Drags don't need to be dropped bellow 18psi, so they are very stable on the topend.

I ran ET Streets at 10 psi...they did drift quite a bit at the top end.

My best pass on them was a 11.2 @ 125.xx and they took a little getting used to on the top end

I run 26x10.5x15 ET Streets also, I had them down to 11psi to try and hook and it freaked me out!!!
It's some scary **** man at 122mph.
I will never go below 18psi now. Even at 18 it still drifts.
I'm NOT running tubes. I wonder if tubes will help.

Mine drifted on the top end with radial tires until I switched to ET Fronts and it felt really stable.

I don't understand why most run so little air in ET Streets. I run 1.57, 1.58 60' times at 25 psi and almost zero drift on the top end. If you run over 20 psi drift is minimal.

I was running 26x11.5.16 ET Streets with tube at 14 psi and they drifted a little at 115ish mph, but nothing scary. Once Bandimere open this season, time to try out the Hoosier 28x10x16 slicks

I ran my 26x11.5x15 ET Streets on 15x10's at 15psi or higher and was cutting 1.50-1.53's all day long, no drifting. Tires would grow 2psi from cold.

I have run tires at 11-12 psi and they drift badly. If you have to run that low a tire pressure you should tune your chassis more.

I ran my 28x11.5x15 QTP's on 15x10's and ran them at 16-19psi and was going 1.48-1.50's.

IMO lower than 15psi is not safe.

My car drifted a bit at 12psi in ET streets.

My car had the bad habit of kicking the rear to the left about a foot at 120mph and 6300rpm (Right at my HP peak) it was VERY scary
Going with screwed ET drags this year on Convo Pros

Tubes help alot on the wiggly top end w/low pressures, but they also slow you down just a bit. My ET Drags (15x8.5-26") are real stable w 19 psi going thru at 108+. Hopefully, they'll be o.k. at 113-114 this season....WJ.

Just run about 18-20 psi in them. See if they hook. No since in droping pressure if you dont need to. 18 psi and a 1.64 on my full weight n/a m6. No drifting here exept when i changed lanes on the interstate driving there. But at the track nothing.

I guess I scared you just a little bit Jeremy. It's not that bad, just takes some getting use too. Once we put them on we'll go for a drive so you know what I'm talking about. One thing to remember, don't over correct to bad though if the car starts to drifted. Just ride it out, and you'll be fine.

I've ran 255/50-16 BFG Drag Radials and 26x10.5-16 ET Streets.

I ran the BFG's at around 20psi at the track and they drifted horribly.

This past weekend I ran on ET streets at 20psi and they felt very solid and I didn't notice any drifting at all. (And running about 7mph quicker through the 1/4 on the ET Streets versus what I was running on BFG's)

Thanks for all the responses, I didn't expect much help on this one but suprise suprise when I checked my email, the box was full
I am going to run 18psi and see how she does there. I rrreeeaaallllyyyyy don't want to go below 15psi. I believe any lower is crazy with a heavy car with soft sidewalls trapping 120+. I hope to hit 1.4-1.5 60fts with my combo in my sig. I will be foot braking to 2300rpm to launch and see what happens. With my old Powerdyne set up, I was trapping @115mph with the BFGs and all was fine, but that was then. I now have the ATI D1 shoving big heapings of air down my lil LS1 and expect my trapspeeds to increase 6-10mph at the big end. We will see and thanks for all the help and you guys scare me too

PNYKILR, yeah I got freaked out hearing all the "stories" and after me, Eric and Josh spun the Van and trailer with my Formula on it on the freeway, without killing ourselves or hurting any of the vehicles, my nerves are a little frayed when it comes to any kind of drifting, lol I am drift "shocked"

Low pressure and z-rated tires on the front is a bad mix. I run bias-ply skinnies and ET Streets without tubes at 14-16psi and I go straight as an arrow. Pretty much can just set the cruise control and read a magazine at 114mph.

Once I was prepping my car, and had the ET's on the back and my AutoX tires on the front and ran down to the autoparts store. I had a religious experience when I nailed it in second on a slightly cambered road.

I run the bias-ply skinnies on my 15x3.5's so I am not worried there. It was just the thought of drifting around on the big end at 120+mph.
