You can use the newer software with the older cable but most people use the DOS Software for speed and reliability.

yup keep using the DOS version... the windows version is a POS ... before I switched to HPT I was using atap v1 cable and had all of the windows versions (version 1.0 was a total POS, version 2.x was pretty crappy too) and always used the DOS version...
