iron, or alum. block i want to build a 427 engine.
should i use the 427 aluminum block, or a bored out iron block?
i know the iron block wieghs more, but is the power, and reliability worth the extra wieght?

How do you plan to get 427 cubic inches out of a 4.030 bore? With a 4.000" stroke you get 408CI and with a 4.125" stroke you get 419CI.
The better choice, in either case, is a re-sleeved aluminum block. It is, however, more expensive.

that is what i was thinking at first, a 408 iron block, but i realy love the ls1/ls6 427 c5r alum. block, so much more lighter, a lot better power to wieght ratio, plus gm uses it in the c5r, and have with out any problems, but was not sure, needed more opinions first, again thanks guys for your help,
i guess i will try the resleeved alum. block.

I`ve been talking to MTI and I`m thinking of a 427 iron block. David at MTI said we could build it and it would last no problem. The ones They have made with good results! I`m planning to spray a 200 shot with it! Maybe alittle bigger to make up for the iron weight! 225 shot!! But it can be done safely!! What is the cost differance from iron to alum? I know you have a core exchange. Is there anymore?
