Default iron, or alum. block

i want to build a 427 engine.
should i use the 427 aluminum block, or a bored out iron block?
i know the iron block wieghs more, but is the power, and reliability worth the extra wieght?

Might be different but I doubt it,our 540 in our race car is aluminum and we make 1400 hp and 1200 lbs of torque...Keith Black Alum block...

How do you plan to get 427 cubic inches out of a 4.030 bore? With a 4.000" stroke you get 408CI and with a 4.125" stroke you get 419CI.

The better choice, in either case, is a re-sleeved aluminum block. It is, however, more expensive.

you can get 427 with 4.060 boar and a 4.125 stroke

4.060 bore on a 6.0L Iron block. Have fun with that project.....

It's definately possible. MTI has built a few iron 427's.

No one has showed me any damage to an aluminum block from power adder, or any sort of power for that matter. So go aluminum re-sleeved block, you'll save alot of wheight.

thanks guys.
that is what i was thinking at first, a 408 iron block, but i realy love the ls1/ls6 427 c5r alum. block, so much more lighter, a lot better power to wieght ratio, plus gm uses it in the c5r, and have with out any problems, but was not sure, needed more opinions first, again thanks guys for your help,
i guess i will try the resleeved alum. block.
ps. any more answers please tell.

How much power do you want to make? Are you adding boost or nitrous, if so how much? Whats your performance goals?

I`ve been talking to MTI and I`m thinking of a 427 iron block. David at MTI said we could build it and it would last no problem. The ones They have made with good results! I`m planning to spray a 200 shot with it! Maybe alittle bigger to make up for the iron weight! 225 shot!! But it can be done safely!! What is the cost differance from iron to alum? I know you have a core exchange. Is there anymore?
