Default Took a few more track runs...

Due to the Texas shootout I had already scheduled time off work, home repairs, and girlfriend maintenance, so I went ahead and spent the week playing around with the car.

I ran a couple weeks ago at Irwindale with 3.23s and hit a best of 6.73@102.78 1.55 60'

Then I switched the 3.23 rear end out for my 4.10 rear end, put on my new catback system (dynomax bullets and an ultraflow out back), and installed an autometer shift lite (6800rpm pill).

Went back to Irwindale and ran a best of 6.82@101.98 1.52 60' closed cutout, and about the same time open cutout. The good news is my new exhaust system is very efficient.

I chalked the loss up to an extra shift in the 1/8th, the 40# exhaust system, and potentially less flash off the line with the 4.10s.

Then I switched my 26" hoosier drags out for 27" hoosier QTP's and headed out to Carlsbad raceway.

My best was 10.77@127.6 1.58 60', 6.92 @101.5 1/8th, closed exhaust. ~1000' DA.

Finally on the way home I stopped by Fontana raceway and took a couple passes. My best there was 10.78@126.5 1.52 60'. ~2000' DA.

I think my next move is going to be to switch back to the 229v2.1 camshaft and retune the car. There is no reason I shouldn't be in the high 1.3 range 60' wise. I cut a 1.45 with the 229v2.1 and 4L60E/4.10 combo. I'd love to go solid roller but I'd rather sell this motor and build a budget 346 juice *****.

A high 1.5 at your power level probably means you are getting some tire spin don't you think? Either that or the car needs a lot more converter and it's a bit lazy out of the hole...?

Given the 101mph 1/8th and the light weight of your car, seems to me that you are a 1.4 away from some 10.4's. I bet you would run 10.4@128mph with the car no problem.

BTW all runs with an unlocked TH350. It's kinda funny right now with the 396/unlocked TH350 combo I put out almost the same power I did with the 346/locked 4l60e, around 450rwhp. I really need to fix that lockup so I can break 130 with this setup.

My race weight is around 3300# right now, and I love racing the car through the exhaust. It's SOOO much nicer than cutouts.

You went faster with the 3.23's which is interesting (even though the catback added a little weight and stole some power)

I would put back in the 3.23's and test again. Maybe the car will like it better

Didn't you say before that your converter was a bit tight, cuz if you are not spinning you probably could use another 400 rpms of stall no?

I could use a little more converter but I think this setup will work well with my next 346ci juice motor.

I might try a set of 3.42s in the car soon. With the 27" tires that would be close to 3.23s with 26" tires.

Terry your ran pretty well considering it was through the exhaust. It sucks that you didn't make it out to Texas, it really would be nice to see what your car would run at a good track. Terry, just curious what RPM you're crossing the traps at with the 4.10's in 3rd with the convertor unlocked.

Nice runs Terry, and you are soooo right about racing thru a full exhaust vs a cutout(s). Open headers and cutouts sound like total *** inside the car, I really don't like it. I ran at the Thunder Shootout thru the SLP dual-dual and it sounded like I had a 6-cylinder, especially during burnouts lol. Still ran a 10.67 and 10.70 thru the muffler (mufflers required, no cutouts allowed at that event).

It is MUCH nicer to haul *** in a quiet car

Terry,

You need a bigger motor.

How do you like those 27" QTP's? I think I might try them this year also. Probably gear me perfect with the 4.30's. Or do you wanna trade them for my 26 Drags?

I've got a neat smaller motor coming soon. When are you going to hit the track again? It's been like 9 months!

Hey Terry,
This is a little off the subject, but do you still have your TTS Y pipe with the cut outs for sale? There was a post before, but I didn't know if you sold it?

Our track doesn't open until the end of April. That only gives me a month and a half to get the new set of heads done, new cam, hood, aerospace brake kit, drag springs etc. on the car.

What do you think about the front brake kit?

I'm happy with it! I'll do the rears when I do a 12 bolt some day.
