i'm getting ready to put a 160 thermostat in my car, and i came across this mod on a search. i havent read any bad things about it but i figure i'd ask before i go splicing the switch into my fusebox and putting the sensor in my cooling fins. seems alot cleaner, easier, and less mess than running a manual switch to the interior.

once i get enough mods to warrant a tune i'll remove the switch and have it done in the pcm, but until then this mod seems like a cheap and easy way to utilize a lower temp stat without running wires and mounting switches in the cabin.

i put a 160 slp thermo in my Z and i still see about 200 degrees, i put the slp fan switch in my SS and when i kick the fans on high i see about 170 tops and thats down here even in the summer. I am gonna buy another one for the Z . Just giving u my opinion

i just really dont want to wire up a fan switch to the interior when this mod does it all underhood and automatically. just looking for a cheap and easy way to do it without having to mount a switch in the interior until i have enough mods to warrant a pcm tune where i can also have them adjust the fan setting.

or buy a used Hypertech HPP3 for $150-200 and be able to do that without any messing around with wires and fuses. plus you can do some other mods with it.

The Hypertech (or a real tuning software setup, or
Predator) all work off the engine coolant temp in
the driver's side head. That temp is set somewhat
by the thermostat and doesn't rise until the 'stat
has already lost control of engine temp. That is a
little late to start running the fans, I think. Though
with the 160F 'stat the pivot is softer and you get
some early indication.

I had one of these Hayden kits but ended up
returning it because I found Selco thermostats
(electric thermostat switch) for under ten bucks
and figured I'd just use one of those and a relay
instead. But then I got into the tuning angle and
never did; also changed my 'stat to a lower temp
than the Selco I did buy and weatherproof up.

If I were to get the urge again, I believe I'd get
one of those plug-n-play fan switch harnesses
and just substitute a 160F Selco thermostat for
the panel switch - run the fans whenever the
tank is hotter than 15 degrees below the engine
thermostat pivot (175F for the "160" Hype-tech).
That leaves plenty of "cold surge" on tap.
