Default Comp R lifter failure?

anyone had comp r lifter failure yet? We had preload set perfect. I pulled engine due to oil pressure problem. (It started losing oil pressure WOT) When I pulled the heads we noticed 3 of the lifters the cups were not clipped in any more.Like the clip had come out.

yeah they have
I have always had some valve train noise Have went over the lash more than once. Heck I have had it double and triple checked by others also. So the lash was not the problem.

Yup, I had one Comp-R fail on me in similar manner. Mine made no noise, I just found the two broken pieces of the stamped-steel plunger retainer stuck to my oil pan magnet while doing a routine oil change.

Comp Cams was very cool about it, swapped the entire set on warranty even though only one had failed.

They were easy to swap in my old L98 engine, no head pulling required.

crain, could you take a pic of those pieces you found in the oil. i think i have the same problem and found a piece of a plug in the oil also. well atleast i think i did since the drain plug fell into a dirty drain bucket before i checked it. its possible it picked it up from there.

Can't help unfortunately, I sent the pieces and the 16 lifters back to Comp in exchange for the new set.

The two pieces were roughly U-shaped, stamped steel.

thats cool. thats not what i found anyways. this piece was a little circle with a concave side and about 1/4 inch diamater. for the life of me, i could not see where it could come from. i even took apart one of my stock lifters and did not see anything like it on there. the heads are comeing off soon anyways so i will check them all then.

I would like to see a picture as well. I found a single U shaped peice of metal on the drain plug. Car seem to run fine but this is nagging at me. I have 977 springs and Comp R lifters. I am half tempted to dump th lifters and springs this winter for peice of mind.
