Default Had a great time at SLP Customer Appreciation Day!

Thanks to SLP for putting on such a great event. The entry for everyone (racers, show cars, spectators) was totally free, and the event was well organized.

There were a ton of cars there, too! The Camaro/Firebird class was absolutely huge, with over 100 cars for the first round of bracket eliminations.

I managed to go to the third round in the Non-DOT Slick class, by sheer luck. I was driving pretty well until it came time for eliminations, and I just forgot how to drive...

I managed a few passes in the 10.14 range during the heat of the day (and it was pretty hot!). According to my calculations, the DA hovered around 1500+ ft. all day.

Unfortunately, I think I'm out of the racing business until my new block shows up. I guess all the horsepower from this bad *** ARE 382 big-bore motor finally took it's toll on my already wounded block, as it's now pouring oil out the rear of the motor. Luckily it didn't get that bad until I had made my final pass of the day.

Thanks again to SLP!

Just put some Prolong in the engine and take all the oil out.

Update:

I jacked up the car to see if I could determine the cause of the new external oil flow... Somehow the oil filter had gotten just loose enough for oil to make it's way out of the top of it. Obviously, that made for quite a mess!

Looks like I'm still going to be able to make the first points race next week!!!

You should've come over to where I was pitted and said "Hello!" I was almost directly across from the SLP display/SLP Ultra-Z car.

Glad you had a great time racing.

Cool that you can make the 1st bracket race of the season.

Good luck this year and bring home a track chapionship to the LS1 world.

Same for me, the SLP race was great! Met a lot of nice people, and it was a change of pace from my usual bracket racing. Was glad to go 4 rounds, but a damn .498 ended my run Either way, my hats off to SLP, they put on a great event!

Sorry George for not coming over, but I was feeling under the weather. I was only there to get a friend out of the house per his wife so she could get the house ready for a surprise birthday party.. I did see you run and I was highly impressed.. You have a awesome setup and I am happy you do not street race in my area..

I thought the event was run pretty well, I couldnt believe all the F- Bodies!!I was impressed with the red Z28 running 10 teens on motor, only to find out later that was you George!! Sorry I didnt get a chance to introduce myself, but your car is awesome!! I had the silver SS with the cage that took third place in the Non slick F-Body class. It took me 7 rounds to get there and then I redlighted. Thats drag racing. The best I could muster with that air was a 11.85. But I made 10 passes, took off theET streets , and drove back to Stuart with the AC on!! Got to love the LS1s.I have H/C , no juice. Sorry I missed you also Vince. I did line up twice with I think his screen name is DaTruth wth the turbo TA and got the best of him .Sweet revenge for my loss to him at Bradenton!!

Nice runs down there George. We've never met, but everybody around here knows who you are. I saw that you weren't pulling the wheels up as high as I've seen you in Gainesville.

I had fun down there. I got a new best. 12.3 @ 114 on street tires. I'm pretty happy about that. I just need to 60' better. My best was a 2.0

As far as I saw, you were running better than SLP's car, weren't you? Anyway, you're right. SLP did a good job on the whole thing.

Nope, that's something I've been working on... Now if I can just get the car to consistently hook, I'll be all set.

FWIW, yes, I was running about 4 tenths quicker and ~4mph faster than the SLP Ultra-Z car. They're still doing a lot of tuning on it, so I'm sure it will get better, though.

George - the car was awesome, nice work. Actually, several very nicely done f-bodies at the show.

The SLP UltraZ did a best of 10.52 @ 128....without really pushing it.

Keep in mind, these were the FIRST 4 passes on that car. We ran slightly de-tuned and with too much gear. I ran out of gear/tire so I was on the limiter going through the traps. No trans brake either (only had 1.52 60 ft) wasn't even hooking off idle. Too much converter for the stroker. Engine makes 500 ft-lbs at 3000 rpm! We could not get the suspension tuned with only 4 passes - plus i didnt want to crawl under the car in the heat and in my nice cloths

with the following updates/changes we will speed up quite a bit:

28 slick - replace 26
3.73 - replace 4.11
3500 converter - replace 4200 converter
trans brake - replace off-idle launch
elec water pump - replace stock water pump
1.85 rockers - replace 1.8 rockers
ported intake - replace stock LS6 intake

Keep in mind, we worked 36 straight hours to get this thing together to make it to the show - some things had to wait

Car still weights 3500 lbs. Diet time

I would have had a good time but unfortunately my car was the blk formula that broke down. It was a really nice event, thanks SLP.

Two knowledgable people thought it was the timing chain. Hopefully the damage is minimal. It's at Norris Motorsports now.

Had to bum a ride home. Kinda sucks.

No doubt you guys did a great job on the car, and it will certainly get quicker as you get the bugs worked out...

I was wondering about the 26" tires actually. That car definately needs some more meat underneath it.

What do you guys spin that motor up to? I wouldn't think you'd be running out of gear with a 26"/4.11 combo. Even with my loose *** 5500 converter, I manage (barely) to go ~133mph with my 4.33/28" tire combo. I think I'm changing to a 30" measured (29.5 x 10.5 ET Drag) tire soon, though, as I do see ~7500rpm through the traps on a good pass.

I didn't use the tranny brake at all Saturday, as I know it wouldn't have hooked, since I think my tires are used up, and the suspension still needs some more tweaking. IIRC, I had a couple of 1.38 60' times, but was mostly spinning to the low 1.4 range.

Again, great job on everything SLP!!!!

I was there as well, and had a great time! Saw that car of yours run- Nice!! I was happy to have run my basically stock car to a 13.19@ 107. Of course, compared to most on here thats pretty slow, but I was pleased, and am wanting 12's

I had alot of fun and looking back I wish I had run in eleminations, I may have lost in the first round but atleast I could have said I did it.

George, your car is bad a$$. I was rooting for ya when it came down to you and the Vette.
I was impressed with the Vette but not as impressed as I am with you car (it's the whole LS1 thing)

Hopefully they'll do this event again next year and I'll have a camera that doesn't eat through batteries like crazy.
