Default Single Turbo V6 Dyno Graph

Details:

1989 Turbo Trans Am. We can only run up to 27psi right now because of a the wastegate. We need to pickup a new spring so we can run 30+. Full custom single turbo setup done by TTP.

Car runs pretty well, havent gotten any passes on the new setup. We clipped a 10.4 @ 129 with blowing a headgasket on the top end. This was only running 24psi launching with a loose converter on low boost. The setup should see 9's with full weight/interior + rollcage. Launching on the brake @ 20psi is fun too, george roasted the tires outside... our neighbors should love us between tonight and tomorrow's dyno day

Sounds Good, what are the specs on the motor?

Yes, those along with 86-87 GN's (same motor) are capable of CRAZY power...

Nice work..

Nice HP, but either there's a problem with the dyno graph or the combination is screwed up somewhere. The TQ and HP should not be peaking within 300 RPM of each other. And 220 Ft/Lbs of TQ at 4000 RPM is also an indication that the combination is off. From the looks of the graph it would seem you're in need of a 6000 stall converter which is too big for a TR motor, even a stage 2.

I think the 85 mm turbo might be a bit too large for the engine and maybe the cam's a bit big and you're bleeding off cylinder pressure. An 85mm turbo will flow enough to go low 9s to high 8s.

I ran 11.3s at 126 1.88 60' in my TR with an 1/8 MPH of only 97. The 2600 stall converter killed my 60' and 1/8 but after the 1/8 the car woke up and then I started getting lean pops through the intake cause I was running a single 307 pump. With 70 psi of fuel pressure that pumps volume began to drop causing the car to go lean and pop a head gasket.

My combination was nowhere near as radical as your T/A's. Stock 109 block, .020 JE pistons, a ESP stage 4 cam (baby cam), stock rods and crank, stock rockers, stock ported heads, stock ported intake, stock untouched TB, stock ported exhaust manifolds, CAS V1 intercooler (old style), T63e turbo (3 bolt with 3" compressor housing), 3" ATR downpipe and 30 psi of boost. The converter cost me 3 mph in the 1/8 (126 mph in the 1/4 would yield 100 mph in the 1/8) and the lean popping (popped 4 times in 3rd gear) cost some mph aswell. With a looser converter the car should have run 10.7s at 130. Car was full weight with bone stock suspension and stock wheels w/27x10 slicks.

I see Eric built the tranny, did you guys discuss the combination with him?

well i was told that the graph is like that because i did not do a low rpm blast remember i dont have a lock up converter im going to try to do the next dynographs starting in second to build the boost then on the shift start sampling the graph the torque should go threw the sky

Even starting off boost, I would have expected that by 5000 rpm you would be at full boil if the turbo was the right size. Peak tq at 6000 rpm for a car that starts to drop a lot at 6500 indicates something in the combo isn't right.

For a drag car, getting the torque up would help a lot. Of course if you race from a roll, you probably make a ton of money.

BTW, awesome HP

At what RPM did you hit peak boost?

5600 to 5800 i hit full boost 24psi the i went to 27 at the end of the run i need a tighter wastegate spring to make the boost go higher and im going to run a dump pipe tobe able to spool faster on the trans brake i get 20 psi of boost in 3-4 seconds for my launch spools pritty fast for a big turbo also remember im a no lock up converter so its hard to do a pull down low
