Last minute tire fitting - a few pics...
I decided to get the reciprocating saw out and make a little more room behind the tire...
It takes some doing to fit a 30" tire on one of these cars. I wonder if I can fit a 31" tire?
I'll go back later when I have some time and repair the bumper and make it look close to factory again...

Now that is a lot of tire! Why did you decide to go to the 29's? I will probably do some extra clearancing and stick with the 28 w's.
Nice Job!

Looks great George, I've been contemplating doing the same thing.. Doesn't look like too painful of a project.. I went ahead and lightened up the pics so I could see them better and they turned out pretty good, so here they are again.

Re: Last minute tire fitting - a few pics...
The previous tires on the car were M/T 28x10.5 stiff sidewall ET Drags.
I didn't think I had any clearance issues inside the fender, but I did have some rubbing on the passenger side when I drove the car around last night to warm it up. The back of the tire was hitting the spare tire compartment. Some quick track-side engineering with a hammer solved that.
I made 6 passes last night, and they don't rub anywhere now, except for one tiny spot on the rear bumper (where I didn't trim it). It's hard to say if traction was any better, since my old tires were shot. I didn't touch the shocks before the first pass, and the car nearly got on the back bumper. After that I stiffened up the front a bit, and it calmed down. My 60' times stayed in the 1.38 range all night (for some strange reason, my 60' times slowed down when I eliminated the wheelstands...).
All in all, I'm really happy with the "monster truck" tires...

Here's a quick video, just for a reference. If you've seen any of my videos from last year, you'll see this is a drastic change from the nasty wheelstands.

My first pass last night with the new tires was a 1.36, and I'm 99% sure it was with the rear tires... Then, I stiffened up the front shocks (a lot), which calmed the car down a great deal. Then the car started going 1.38.

George, do you have adjustable LCA's, and if so, did you pull the tires back an inch or two? I don't mind cutting the rear bumper at all but I would rather not modify the front sheetmetal.
I am gonna do 29's the next time I get tires! Only think I might do over Xmas is narrow the rearend and minitub the car so the tires get tucked in more.
