Question If I bought an assembled shortblock...

If I bought an assembled shortblock, is it just a matter of bolting on the pan, heads, intake, and other accessories? Or is there additional cleaning/machine work that needs to be done? After reading the thread on assembling a block, I don't think I would want to tackle that

No additional machine work should need to be done

You will have to let the builder know what heads, head gaskets, and cam your running before hand and they should do the dirty work for you.

HPE did all that for me and told me anything I wanted to know before hand, install went great and it fired up first try.

Why would the builder need to know the heads, gaskets, and cam? In case the pistons needed flycutting?
