New Best but strange tranny problems
Here's my first run and it was a new best.
.524...........reaction time.
1.618..........sixty foot time.
4.823..........330 foot time.
7.526..........1/8 mile time.
89.98..........1/8 mph.
9.882..........1000 foot time.
11.875.........1/4 mile time.
112.93.........1/4 mph.
Well, the 2 to 3 shift is still a little too late so I lowered the shift by 1 mph. Since the temperature was dropping and the sun was going down, I figured 11.7s were not out of reach and I was also hoping for a 1.59 sixty foot time.
Well, my second run I did reach one of my goals, I sixty footed a 1.59 but the tranny wouldn't shift to 2nd so I had to shut it down. It was as if it shifted to neutral instead. That might have been the 11.7 run I was hoping for.
Then during the first round of eliminations the weather was nice and cool now, so as long as the tranny shifted alright, I thought I had a good chance to go an 11.7.
Well, this time the tranny took off in 2nd gear even though I had it in Drive!?! This is the second time this has happened. Funny thing is, it still went 7.988 @ 89.90 mph in the 1/8 w/ a 1.938 short. It wouldn't shift to third so once the rpms got up to around 6500 I let off. I had to turn off the ignition and restart the car before it would come out of 2nd gear. Again, the entire time the gear selector was firmly placed in D.
A friend of mine told me later that I may have been stalling for too long, confusing my computer causing the tranny to ***** up.
Oh well, a new best so I can't complain too much.

Yeah it might have gone into limp mode.
Check your tranny temps when you race, don't hot lap you can burn up your tranny.
A 'neutral' feeling is the trans slipping.
Might want to check the fluid and level.

Re: New Best but strange tranny problems
If anything, I need to ADD more TM. I've eliminated it in about a dozen different places. Maybe that's why my tranny is already slipping.

Re: New Best but strange tranny problems
Nice run! You've given my A4 vert some hope. Looks like a converter will make a HUGE difference.
Did the fluid smell burnt or look discolored?
Do you have an aftermarket MAF?
My granatelli MAF makes mine to "weird" things with the pressure and the feel of it. Just my .02

Re: New Best but strange tranny problems
No burnt smell and no MAF mods.
The only thing I can think of is all of the TM my friend removed. He took just about every safe guard off. Good for performance but bad for durability.
I remember reading one of the LS1 Edit threads about TM where a few people were saying not to over do it with TM removal. I think the jist of it was that you could shorten the life of the tranny or even lose control of your car during a shift. I'm not sure how much truth there is to that second part but I'm sure there is some truth to the first part. I'm also sure a 4400 rpm stall can shorten the life of a tranny too.

Re: New Best but strange tranny problems
Well, maybe my transmission isn't slipping afterall. I went back to the drag strip last night and had 4 consecutive runs with no tranny problems. I just didn't brake torque so long this time. It appears that was 100% of the problem. I'll post my times from last night in a new thread.
