Turbo 350 tranny huh? I guess if you want to go fast without exploding all over the track you eventually have to break out some domestic parts.

Regardless of what tranny was used, the car is incredible:
183" 6-cylinder.
Factory block.
Factory crankshaft.
Factory head.
Factory IRS rearend.
No nitrous.
Drag radials.
Paul occasionally drives the car on the street. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />
Those are awesome stats no matter WHAT brand of car.

I agree, it's a very impressive car no doubt and I can respect it. But so is ARE's 8 second LS1 car amongst many other types of cars.
BTW, I didn't say anything about a car running 8's with a FACTORY transmission. I just plainly said domestic. Apparently this individual decided to use a domestic TH350 rather than any sort of import built transmission whether it's custom or race built or factory modified or whatever. Maybe there's something to be said for that.
Also, I'm not sure why some of you guys consistently come to this board to pimp Supra's and slam LS1's as evidenced by BW's ignorant, irrelevant statement.

That car sounds extremely impressive! The comment that he drives it on the street makes it sound like you are claiming it is somewhat streetable. Do you have any video footage of the car?

To FYRARMS, I as well as many others are not close minded to other makes of cars, there are several makes of imports that I respect, but when I see several sarcastic posts by yourself as well as BW, it's hard for me to assume that you are posting a topic that is meant to be informative only.
About the car, it seems as though many of the turbo imports do so well on drag radials simply because they don't rely on their 60' to ET well. Most of the power is top end, this is why it requires much more power for these cars to ET well, and the trap speeds are excessive as opposed to many slicked V8 cars.
I would guess this 8 second Supra is atleast around 1200+ HP. ARE's 8 second LS1 is probably down around 300-400HP but still has the ability to ET close to the same because the car can launch well.

Yes, the GM old-school transmissions are the hot ticket for ANY high-powered buildup. Anyone knows that. While the factory Toyota automatic has been modified to support a 9.58 ET (best to date), they are expensive to modify and rebuild after multiple runs. A modified TH400 is being installed in my own Supra...

Well on a second note 8.50s are fast but have u ever seen a supra do 4.10s@ over 300 mph no. but i have seen extremely large v8s do it. as a matter of fact they are the fastest in drag raceing. no they arent a ls1 but they are a v8. I think i speak for everyone when i say we dont want to hear all of this import bullshit. JMO <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Just as a note to all import lovers out there that somehow feel the LS1 is a inferior powerplant, please keep in mind how short of a period of time this engine has even been available as opposed to the Eclipse, Supra, Skyline engines. Many products for aftermarket performance are in an infantile stage and are still being refined/developed. The LS1/6 powerplant doesn't even have a worthy aftermarket intake for it yet, but there still manages to be LS1 based cars that are competetive with times such as this 1000+ HP toiletbowl turboed Supra.

That is pretty amazing times. It has been said and said again that the supra inline six is an incredible motor. However, as said before and as I have said before many times, the ls1 has not been on the market long at all. The Supra comes with a turbo charger from the factory and all aftermarket development is based on forced induction. However, the fbody is N/A which means some will concentrate on N/A and others will push the envelope with bloweres, nitrous, and turbos. Give this motor a couple of years. You will see an ls1 based motor in the 7s on the street.
P.S. Show me an import that is close to the cost of american iron that runs low 13s all motor stock because I can show you american cars with forced induction that respond to mods just like a supra does.

I don't enderstand why people can't look at a badass foreign car and just say wow, instead of getting all defensive with the import vs domestic thing. A car that runs mid 8's on drag radials and is still somewhat able to cruise on the streets deserves repect regardless of what it is. It's not like cars that can do that are common.

Not to start a debate on the post, but when I looked at the title of the post I remembered reading about a Supra going faster than that.. James O'Connor took his 1993 Toyota Supra in the modified class to 7.80 @ 172mph. This was a non tubed chassis. Vinny Ten took his Unorthodox Racing Supra 8.01 at 176mph with a little gas.. Hell they even have the worlds quickest beetle run 8.43 @173mph with a T72 in the Outlaw Class. That beetle runs 40psi of boost and shifts at 9krpm.. The beetle has a 4.34 final drive.. lol!!! There is no doubt we have a bunch competition when it comes to cars that have been around for some time.. I do think we will catch up shortly. On the street we still run from a stop. Not many of the imports can put their crazy power to the ground and by the time they do the race is over..

This post reminds me of a buddy I have. He has a F-body but hangs with the mustang crowd and always tells me about the times they ran at the track and expects me to be amazed, impressed or even scared by them. I am not impressed or amazed or even scared, Mustangs don't interest me at all, neither do imports. Tell me about a LS1 or LT1 fast or not and I will want to know more about it. Yes I respect the times other brands put out, but anything can be made to go fast ANYTHING. But this is the LS1 Drag racing section on the LS1Tech board, so why do you post up here? Do you expect not to take some flack by some members? Do you expect us all to be amazed? I know there are 1-2 LS1 in the eights now, nines being the norm. Us FI guys are figuring it out how to do it right and will be in this range rather quickly. So please tell all these impressive times to the crowd that caters to it, the import crowd. I am looking at a Venom Ad right now and the caption says First "non tubed-chassis" Modified car to run a 7 second 1/4 mile.. Driven by James O'Connor. April 2003 issue of Drag Sport(the Worlds largest import performance source). I use to be a import buff back in the day.. I still get all the mags..

That Supra is very impressive but who really cares. This is a forum for 4th gen Camaros and Firebirds. I never would bother going on an import forum and put a post that said "Troy Pirez went 8.39 169 in his Nova on BFGs, at NMCA rules and at a weight of 3200# with a 1.44 60 ft". Thats impressive. Turbo imports are very fast but they have no place on this forum. A guy I know has a Supra that runs in the 10s at 140 plus with 30 plus pounds of boost. My little LT-1 plus 30 pounds of boost, it will run 8s too.

I have no point and neither does this 8 second supra on drag radials post on an ls1 board. However for further explanation to those too busy defending this and that and not listening to the argument, what I was attempting to say is the forced induction thing has been done by both manufactures (import and domestic)with equal results ,however I was just curious to why there are no fast all motor imports that don't compare cost effectively to domestics. Just and observation and in no way is it offensive or any more off topic than most of the posts on this thread.

While you might be correct that his post (which also happened to have a big smiley icon at the the end of it) has little or nothing to do with the topic at hand, responding in such a manner can certainly only create more friction and flaming...maybe consider simply avoiding the insults and attitude in the future. I don't see why everyone is "hating" on this post. I for one am a FAN OF ALL CARS THAT ARE FAST. These numbers rock and show testament to how strong Supra's run. I am assumming this is with a STOCK block and how much power/boost it can handle. I have to admit that Supra's are pretty impressive with all the good times/numbers that they put out.

I agree this is a forum for our cars.. If anything we should be happy that our performance parts do not cost as much as the Supras.. I have friends that have to take out 2nd mortgages to mod their Supras... One day we will catch up. There is no way we will not figure out how to boost the hell out of a ls1. There are already twin turbo'd LT1's over 1000rwhp..

Sure you will...if the ford 5.0 crowd can figure out how to keep their heads on i'm sure you LS1 guys can too plus you have an ADVANTAGE over them
