Default Will too much timing hurt top end/trap speeds?

When I got my converter installed, I had my shift points, rev limiter, etc adjusted via LS1 Edit. At the same time the tuner advanced my timing a bit. Well I was already on the lean side (13.1-13.4@WOT) but I figured it wouldn't hurt unless I heard some detonation, in which case I would just go back and have him retard it some.

Well at the track my traps have decreased 2-3 mph. I know the converter will do this but my top end seems noticeably weak right now. Is it possible that I'm getting detonation I can't hear, which is retarding the timing? Or is there anything else that could be effecting my top end? My traps went from 109 to 106-107.

how much timing are you talking? I've done some dyno testing on my H/C car and it didn't respond to anything over 28 degrees. I went as high as 32 and it didn't gain/lose any power.

Your convertor will effect top end efficiency somewhat. Best thing to do is log your KR during a run (with Atap or whatnot) to make sure the computer isn't pulling timing...

I saw no gains above 28 total degrees timing at WOT, in fact I lost a couple hp.

I just talked to him and he said he set it at 27 degrees. Is this safe considering I was already running 13.1-13.5 a:f beforehand?

Sure, if you're getting detonation and/or KR, you'll loose some power.

Best power will be found anywhere between 28-32 degrees depending on many things.

Sounds like you need to add some more fuel up top. If you were lean to begin with and he added more timing, that only makes it worse. I bet that is where your mph went.
