Default Tripometer Randomly Resetting and other probs

1) My tripometer has reset back to 0.0 by itself 3X within the last two weeks. The ODO seems to be fine though.

2) I have rich Bank 1/2 codes, and a bad pinging (detonation) at 5K+, related?

Thanks

what year car? this was an issue w/the 99s I believe
https://ls1tech.com/forums/pcm-diagnostics-tuning/153897-odometer-resets-everytime-i-start.html

though w/only 5k miles i'd guess it's an 02? MAYBE an 01? if that's the case bring it to the dealership... make GM pay out some of the money they already charged you for the warranty.. and help out a mechanic

ok did a lil reasearch and found this post:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/new-ls1-owners-newbie-tech/203044-new-forum-ls1-s.html

so you've gotta 99

do a search for "trip reset" and you'll find that you're not alone ... seems to be a common issue w/99s ,

https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=153897
TSB: 99-08-49-009 trip odometer-automaticaly resets to zero

sounds like the fix is the gauge cluster needs to be replaced... dunno if this type of thing would be warranteed since the car is 5-6 years old

I interpretted the 5k as miles and not RPM ... my bad

what O2 codes are you setting?

P0172: Fuel Trim System Rich Bank 1
P0176: Fuel Composition Sensor Circuit

ok... 176 I have never seen before...

for the P0172 ... i'd check for vacuum leaks ... spray a flammable spray (brake cleaner... just make sure it says "warning flammable") along the intake manifold... on the drivers side ... listen for changes in idle characteristics ... if it changes you've gotta vacuum leak... that can cause high LTRIMs (+25%)

do you have anyway of logging/scanning your car? (also please update your signature and from location ... it helps for knowing about your car and you ... sometimes people that are local to you will help you out)

if u can... verify the 176 code... Only reference to that code on the entire site is a DTC list that 2000 Camaro SS posted back in April 2002 (https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...ighlight=P0176)

its not a recall, so its not required to be fixed, just something that the dealers need to be aware of for the car in warranty that have problems, and the proper solution.

It was the same code as the 0172, but for bank 2.........vacuum leak?

So with the TSB, I am screwed? And have to pay out of pocket?

To be honest, this car has giving me HELL since I got it a month ago

1) Rear-end replaced
2) Error codes
3) running a second slow in the 1/4
4) now this ODO crap........come on GM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i'd check for a vacuum leak.... if both sides are getting it... it could be a leak pre Intake manifold...

rear replace : our 10 bolt rears are weak ... but to have to replace right after buying

a second slower? whatya running?

Gotta figure out what's wrong first.. then fix it.. then run it

its the cluster that goes bad, but the problem is more noticable with a low battery.
