Default Positive stud on alternator broken?

I was removing the positive cable from the back of my alternator on my 02 camaro and it made a snapping sound. When I went to tighten it up, the stud just spun with the nut. It’s still firmly in the alternator and the car still has power. Did I brake something or was there just a little plastic part to keep it from spinning that snapped off?

The plastic shroud will make a noise when it breaks.. not sure how I know

The stud is freely spinning? If it's still working I wouldn't mess with it.

It's so hard to get back there to mess with it, but it looks like it is free spinning. I havent had time to mess with it much, but I think it's working alright.
