Default A4 shifting into 4th under full throttle.

Can it be done, I know with ls1edit the tables don't allow it.

The reason I'm asking is i plan on going to the maxton monster mile which is like a 1 mile long run to see what kind of speed you can get, and i don't want to hit the limiter in 3rd gear under full throttle.

Thanks for any help guys,

Derek

huh you got your 3->4 shift set to like 205 or higher or something ?

dont go kill yourself d00d but im pretty sure you can reach your top speed.

get two 15lb tanks of nitrous, and when the first runs out, spray the 2nd. in 4th, you should be well in 200's and have a molten tranny/engine at the end if you dont die in the process

Well in this case i'm not worried about going and killing myself, its on a closed course with a mile long straight and .9 mile long shutdown area.

But with the stock A4 tuning we have a table that looks like this

1-2 shift is made at 6000rpm at 40mph
2-3 shift is made at 6000rpm at 90mph
3-4 shift is made at 5900rpm at 255mph

I think its got it like that for the 3-4 to keep the tranny from being shifted into 4th at WOT. So would I have to let off a little or what, or should I just change it to when I run out of gear in 3rd to shift to 4th at WOT.

I really wanna hit 150+ on this course

I wish i could get a screenshot of what the graph looks like, anything over 43% throttle and it won't shift into 4th unless its at 100 mph, after that the graph goes straight to 254 and then 255.

you would just change the 255 down to where you want it to shift.

on my setup with gears etc.. i think i have mine set around 125-130, not sure though

Clutch pack will have short life if you regularly shift into 4th at WOT.

rather lockup 3rd to redline imo than 3-4 shift, unless you are on sand flats .

if your car is that fast, well you can afford to burn up clutch packs lol. mine only traps 112mph so my slow boat never needs to go that fast. and jail is not an option right now for street fun

just do it, while your there make it lock up too cause when the 'trans blows up it'll probably throw crap into the verter too.

Well this is gonna be kinda like the saltflats, its gonna be a top speed run. So whats the best way to get it to go into 4th at WOT or close to it without burning up the clutch packs, and say if I did it twice, would it cause any damage?

I have 3.73s in the car, so maxing it out in 3rd isn't gonna be to spectulator.

while car was stock, no tuning, mine shifted from 3-4 at WOT at 130MPH and i pulled it up to 142mph & let off. I could have gone faster but ran out of room.

This was done from a 60punch, would it have cut me off like D ROCK says if it was from a dig?

Yea I thought it shifted into 4th around 130mph?? Well, I wouldn't worry about it shifting into 4th a few times in the trannys life. I know I have done it atleast 4 to 5 times in about a 14,000mi span and the tranny seems fine. I prolly won't do it any more....and that is because I have read here plenty of times that it is pretty hard on the tranny, I did'nt know back when i'd wind her up on the highway and let it go over 130mph. If I had a chance to do what you are doing, i'd do it.........

Ok guys, guess i'm gonna change the table next time i get a chance then to shift into 4th at around 125 that way i'm not winding it out all of the way in 3rd. With 350rwhp, what kind of speeds you guys think are achieveable in a full mile?

Oh, and correct me if i'm wrong guys, but if I set the speed at say 120, the car still has to reach the rpm I set it to shift at in order for it to shift into 4th right.

Basically, the car has to reach the rpm you set and the speed you set in order for it to shift, correct?

Decide what the fastest speed you want to go is and gear the rear so you can make it there at the top of third gear. Avoid a WOT 3-4 shift. Even a 4L80-E cannot do it with high power.

I'm not trying to make the car a full out top speed car, this is just one event I plan on going to. If the shift is so bad can I just completely let off the gas at the top of third, let it shift to forth and get back into it again?

As opposed to a WOT 2-3 shift? A 3-4 shift is still running that clutch pack (just like a 2-3 shift) and applying the 2-4 band again to shift into 4th from what I understand...

The 3-4 shift is harder on it than the 2-3 at WOT. He is correct. He is a mod with 6,300+ posts. I am not sure on exactly how/why it is harder on the trans, but it most certainly is. I know the answer to why is on tech somewhere......I think it might have something to do with fourth being OD?

FWIW: Stock (well, LM and FRA) mine shifted into fourth at WOT around 140, give or take.

Blackz28spt, I don't understand how your car shifted into 4th at wot when mine will bang the limiter(I just did a testrun) at around 130. When looking at a stock 98 transmission table it says that it wont shift into 4th at wot, so are the other years different or something?

Ok, I just downloaded some stock 99 files and they shift into 4th at 125, so i'm just gonna use one of their transmission codes for my car. Somehow my table was all messed up.

I have no idea what is up with some apparently not shifting into fourth at WOT. The one time I went fast enough to get fourth it shifted, so

I have no idea either, I downloaded a stock 98 file to mess around with and it said 255, as well as mine. So I got a 99 file to put in to it now.
