GM 427 C5R car goes 9.4's!!!
I was talking to Kurt from Wheel to Wheel and he mentioned that the current best on the car, which is the yellow backhalf Camaro you have seen in some magazine articles is a 9.4@144mph. Car used to have a 402 but now has a 427ci motor. It's somewhere around 14:1 compression and runs a FAST system.

No flames here, but, isn’t the ¼ mile the same length for a stock style suspended LS1 racecar as it is for a back- halved LS1 racecar? What gives? Are the stock style guys restricting themselves?

Here's a clip of the ZL1 and the Yellow car that was on Motor Trend TV a while back. Kind of cool if you've never seen them before.

That video says it all, these back-halved cars are the way to go for drag racing.
Fly By:
The pro stock car is of course lighter than our cars. If this car’s weight is around 3,000 pounds race weight, runs a LS1 based NA engine, back-halved or stock style, IMO it’s the fastest. Seems to me that the back-halved ¼ mile race setup is faster/better than the stock style. If people want to claim to be the fastest then they should have to run the number.

Right, but thats not the point. If you own a camaro, WTF is a backhalved car going to do for YOU?
If BMR built a backhalved car, how would that benefit me? It doesnt.
You want an all out drag car, build a tube frame car

I’ve personally seen back-halved cars driven on the street and raced on the track. They are the ultimate bad *** setups and probably too expensive for me for now. But I don’t begrudge any one for making more money than I make. I think if we limit ourselves to stock style suspension, we’ll never see anything near what the Pro 5.0 boys run. I would like to see faster cars and if it takes back-halving and/or tubs, so be it. GO LS1, I repeat, GO LS1 that’s my point.

Cann, you have a valid point but your missing the picture. Yes, we like to see what cars are running with the ls1 platform but this site is more guided toward stock suspended cars. Sure, to go as fast as possible, you need a pro-mod or 25.1 spec chassis, thats not even a question. But seeing how fast you can go stock suspended is also very important to alot of guys around here. It is also much harder to go quick and requires alot more overall as far as setup and driving skills go. Its really to each thier own but stock style suspension is what more than 90 percent on this board care about IMO, including the sponsors.I too can't wait to see a full on chassied, C5-R based motor with a g-force trans, 110mm thumper turbo with 30+lbs of boost. Make it live and it will fly for sure.

Re: GM 427 C5R car goes 9.4's!!!
We all want to see faster cars and I realize it is an expensive modification to back-halve our cars. And 90% of the board is comprised of inexpressive bolt-on users. I submit to you, we simply add another category to the LS1 fastest list denoted by Stock Style Rear Suspension. This would allow the current record holders to maintain their ranking and make room for the more outlaw class with their 4-linked, big tire machines. Why not, it can happen, if they every get the list working again LOL.

Cann, I think you're on to something there. I think it would be a great idea to add an OUTLAW section I believe we could all benefit by getting some really hardcore racers on the site - maybe some of their ideas would trickle down to our street driven cars.

That is a good idea. For the ls1 to evolve, those type cars will need to be built for sure. The 10.5 tire outlaws are my personal favorites.

Hehe.. that's about what it was running at the Super Chevy show in Memphis
The car is beautiful!
Love the "hidden" coils
They need to do something to that hood though.. it looks like it's going to take flight on the big end.
