Default I think I fixed most of my gear whine

I had been having quite a considerable amount of whine in my12 bolt ever since installing my new posi unit. It just kept getting louder and louder, especially after going to the track.

I finally decided to take things apart and first checked my backlash. It was at .004" when it should be around .008" (I believe). I added a small shim to the passenger side to compensate for this, but then i added a bit more to the overall shim amount to put a bit more pressure on the bearings.

I filled it back up with fluid and after about 500 miles of hard driving, I would say the noise is about 50% better, at least. I'm not sure if this would help everyone but I would recommend at least checking your backlash and making sure it was setup properly.
