Default How to protect paint during engine modifications

Did a search but did not find anything on this topic.

I have several installs planned for this winter, Headers, cam, intake, etc.
How do you protect the fenders and front facia during these installation???

fender covers like what you are supposed to see at "professional" auto shops. blankets will work as well to protect against glancing hits, but they won't do squat to stop a sharp point from being jabbed through them.

I use old cotton beach towels and then put fender covers over the towels. I wouldn't lay the fender covers on my car; they will scratch it because they are not as soft on the back as you think.
