T-REX + A4 question
I have an oprotunity to get a Trex cam from someone local. I have a 3500 rpm convertor, but the guy im buying it from says the cam starts making power at 3000 so despite what thunder says, it will be good.
what do you guys think.... personal experiences?
also, what length pushrods with stock heads do you use with it?
What kinda power can I expect from it with a mostly stock car with headers. true duals, 12 in. bullits, airlid, 3500 convertor and 323 gears?
what about nitrous with cam?
this is still my daily driver for the time being, but im willing to trade streetabilty for kicka$$ ability.
opinions?

7.400 pushrods. should make some pretty wicked power. i'd still consider re-stalling to 3800 or 4000. just make sure you get that tune dialed in tight and you should be ok. may want to consider puttin in some higher gears, that would help streetability as well.

Your current gears and convertor will not give you the results you want.
Unless you're willing to swap these out to match the duties of this cam then I feel you'll be very disappointed with the performance.
Just give ThunderRacing a call to see what they feel the best convertor/gear ratio to match your goals w/this choice of camshaft.
Also, computer tuning is a must.

You haven't been home in a while, huh? Outdoor World, up near the Mills mall, has been finished for a minute. Its expensive as hell, but its fun to walk around in. They have a new recreation park @ Grapevine Lake, even has a paintball field. The whole area(Grapevine, Colleyville, Southlake, Euless) has been built up like crazy. Redoing roads everywhere b/c of too much traffic. You'd be suprised. Take care man, and if you head overseas anytime soon, and find yourself in the Green Zone, say hi to 3-8CAV/3BDE/1CD. Thats my old unit.

I got the G5X3 cam with my A4 and had 3.23s and a yank PT4000 stall and most bolt-ons.. first run out was an 11.97@113.41 with a 1.68 short time.. that was on a 2000 RPM launch.. then the 4l60E didn't like the 3000 launch.. 4l60E <== boom! now I'm swapping to the T56 haha

i was kinda hopeing to get better than a 11.97 out of it, I dont even have all the bolt ons now, and i run 12.5.. You think a cam will only give me 5/10's? i was kinda thinking 6 or 7/10's

To get the maximum gains from this cam you'll need, convertor (4000 min), gears (at least 3.73), LS1Edit (pretty sure you have), sticky rear tires, LT headers w/ORY, LS6 intake, ASP pulley, larger tranny pan and cooler (assuming you don't have either).
With all the bolt-ons and a good tune, I'd say 5-7/10s gain on a good track with really good weather. But, don't count on your A4 lasting very long if you frequent the track a lot and/or go WOT numerous times/day, etc.

I have a trex in my A4, I say get it if its cheap and work on a bigger stall/gears later. I dont know how much you can tolerate as far as streetablity but you can pretty much bet that you will need a tune soon after the install. I had my idle turned up to 1300 for a week until i had a chance to tune it. As for the push rods, thunder racing recommends "Thunder Racing Stock Length Pushrods (7.400)" according to the website, you may want to call and check.

This is the same answer as I posted on ls2.
The T-Rex is alright for a daily driver, but I wouldn't do it on my car. If you want to throw in a decent size streetable cam look twords the G5X2, tsp 231/237, FM13........things like that. Those cams will work alot better with your current stall. With any cam, it needs to breathe. You need atleast an ls6 intake and a TB. If you decide to go with the T-Rex you should get an LSX 78mm will do, but a 90mm would be better, and matching TB. I'd go with either a Shaner S3, LSX or an MTI. A set of Patriot Gold Dual springs wouldn't hurt either.
