Street Racing & Kill Stories - 389rwhp cobra cant pull on my stock 01 ss?

my friend has an 04 cobra with cold air through his fender, we raced from 65 mph through fifth gear and we were side by side, weve even raced from 35mph and we just stay right next to each other, now I just installed longtubes, ory, and loudmouth. I havent raced him yet with my new exhaust, but I was wondering what type of ss do I have? I have raced 3 other ss cars not sure what year on the freeway and I just walk away from them. All I know is some of the 01 and 02's came with ls6 intake.
does anybody no more about the types of ss's that came out in 01?

Supposedly in 02 some ls6 blocks were put in to a limited amount of fbodys...

With headers and exhaust I beat a stock 03 cobra. I personally think theyre overrated.

Only one kind of SS, but there were a few different options available (lid, exhaust etc.) that could change the base horsepower ratings but nothing really serious enough to allow one SS (or any LS1 car) to be substantially faster than another with the same transmission.
You just got a strong running car and/or are a good driver maybe. :drive:

Did you buy your car new or used? Maybe someone before you put some mods on it.

Maybe they took their car back to stock as much as they could before they sold it?

Get it dyno'd and find out.

his first time out to the track he ran a 13.0@110 w/o intake I know I cant keep up with him from a dead stop because he's got boost, but on the freeway its a different story. The only thing I had done to the car was a k&n drop in filter and a short throw.

Sounds like maybe you bought an already modded car. Sleeper cam and tuning perhaps? I don't see why anyone would do something like that before something like headers, but who knows...it wouldn't be a first...

just letting you know, ls6 blocks do nothing HP wise to a motor... they have bay windows for better oil flow through out the block, but that is about it..

A sleeper just as stated above is a stock-sounding cam. They can provide plenty of grunt w/o putting out a modded sound. You can get around 224/224 duration with a 114-115 LSA, or around 220/220 on a 112 and sound close to stock. It all depends on the ears' experience...

If you've never dyno'd the car, its tough to say. Ive seen no less than 4 F bodies dyno 320+ rwhp stock. Its just a freak occurance, but it happens. Maybe you got one of those. Ive raced a few stock 03 Cobras and kept up with each one. Nobody pulled anybody. Modded is another story. NX wet kit on the floor in front of my desk should solve that little problem nicely. :devil:

that's your sig...and you said the cobra runs a 13.0 @ 110...well that means he is faster than you...and boost would be better at highway so you would even loose more there...i don't buy your story unless you just cannot drive

Are you sure you are racing a cobra, or did he put a cobra appearance kit on it. Maybe he can't drive? Then again, maybe god likes you more. :eyes:

According to Scott Settlemire, Fbod father, form the meeting in Bowling Green last weekend ALL 01-02s got the LS6 block. There was a shortage of LS1s and they were thinking of only releasing V6s for the last 2 years but they pulled some strings and used the LS6 blocks instead of LS1 blocks. That was straight from his mouth!!

He lied. Not all 01 & 02's got LS6 blocks. It means nothing if you do have an LS6 block anyway.

Yep he lied. My 02 is an LS1 block. Ive checked the numbers. Granted, i bought it in Oct. '01, so it was like one of the first '02s. Ive seen it printed somewhere that 15% of 01s and 25% of 02s got the LS6 blocks. But again, that means almost nothing, certainly not relative to the topic at hand.

I've taken my car to the track 3 times, and those are the only times I've raced a 1/4 mile, my friend has been to the track around 40 times he said. give me a little time to practice on my runs.

But as far as the freeway runs u can believe what u want, but the plain fact remains weve raced at least five times on the freeway and were side by side. when we talk about it he just keeps on wondering why he can't leave me, cause he's smoked plenty of vettes and other camaros.

I'm looking to buy a new Maro soon, and have seen several 02SS's claiming to have a 345hp version. I've not done my homework on the subject yet, but is there any truth in this? If so, then I think that would make your story fit just about right. The Maro's are lighter than the Stangs. Especially the Cobra's. Nice run's either way. You had asked about stealth cams earlier. Hang out in the internal section for 1 day, and you'll learn a TON about them. MTI makes to cams that are specifically made to be stealthy. Called the Stealth I & II's. Colonel's running one, and he's making crazy hp numbers on it. Supposedly runs and sounds stock too. Nice! :thumb:

No they're the same they just have more reinforcements on the block. Which doesnt really mean that much since most people going big enough to need those reinforcements switch to an iron block anyways. The 6.0 iron is way stronger sure you sacrifice some weight but you gain in other areas that are nice. Or just resleeve the plain ls1 block it can handle enough of a beating.
