Default Tach busted - Cam sensor related?

My tech stopped workign the other day; I 've been told the cam sensor in my car is dead. It is throwing a bunch of codes....

I assume the cam sensor is also used to determine RPM?

Thanks....

The Crankshaft position sensor is used for RPM. The cam shaft position sensor is used to tell the PCM where the engine is in each 720 degree (2 revolution) combustion cycle of intake/compression/power/exhaust. This information is used for timing two things, the ignition event (when to fire the plug) and the injection of fuel.

What kind of diagnostic trouble codes are you throwing and what do the DTC's mean?

Best of luck.
