Default I just got the largest cam to date to pass tailpipe emissions testing (Cartek 3X)!!!

YEHAWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!

I just got back from emissions testing and dodged a silver bullet

I just passed the tailpipe emissions test with what I believe is the largest cam to ever pass emissions in an LSX motor! The Cartek 3X cam (rumored to be mid/low 230-ish duration and ~0.600" lift per Dave Busch) still sounded a bit lumpy idling at 1050 RPM thru my temporarily installed Carsound CATs and Super Turbo Mufflers. The guys at the emissions testing place were giving me the evil eye like "no way is this thing going to pass" but sure enough, with a little LS1_Edit tweaking, 2 gallons of De-natured Alcohol, installation of my CATs and a higher idle......... you can see the results below

What did you have to pass for? 1988 Monte Carlo, or the year of the engine?

Those spec look like are going to be for a 88 car. Anybody know what 98 and up spec would be. John

congrats

question though...

You mentioned you have duals yet they had single exhaust on the sheet. That'll skew the results by half from the tailpipe in your test. (At least it does up here)

Great job though all the same, its amazing what reduced timing, methonal/akly and a higher idle speed can do for you

chris, the exhaust is in ppm and %, so duals don't make a difference. Believe me, I wish they did!

what did you do in the ls1edit?
Followed Chris ARE 385's advice and set the timing to 12° from zero to 3000 RPM, idle to 50 RPM under max allowed (1050 RPM in my case with 1100 RPM max.) and set the fans to stock temp. Additionally, I leaned the MAF by an additional 5% thru 4000hz.
Alcohol?
I bought 2 gallons of de-natured alcohol at Lowes for $10.99 a can and mixed it in with about 4 gallons of gas left in my tank for a about a 33% mix.
What did you have to pass for? 1988 Monte Carlo, or the year of the engine?
For an '88 Monte since they assumed it to be the stock set-up because they acknowledged that I had a stick in the car but you can see the default entry on the form says that I have a 5.0L auto! By the way, this tailpipe spec is the same for almost all states with the LS1 cars.
You mentioned you have duals yet they had single exhaust on the sheet. That'll skew the results by half from the tailpipe in your test. (At least it does up here)
That's because the car come from the factory with a single exhaust and dual tailpipes! Even if it doubled or more, you can see that I still cleared by a country mile

And by the way, if you'll also notice, since their tach pick-up plugs in the ash tray lighter and we all know that the LS1/6 tach signal reads only half on a typical V-8 tach, notice what their machine thought my idle RPM was!!!!
