Default rough idle wont run. Found problem

Ive got a 99 ss. i was siting in traffic the other day, when my car started runing really rough, it wouldnt barley idle and had barley any power and the ses light was flashing. When i poped the hood and started it, it kinda sounded like it was puffing air out somwhere, The car feels like its runing on 6 cylinders. the car never overheaded and no smoke out the exhaust. thanks

Check to make sure each bank of coil packs is plugged in securly, if you unplug one bank the car will run really super rough and possibly die, I have fired mine up on accident with that unplugged (Its the white plug in the middle of the valvecover).

Also check your IAT sensor, that will make your car run like you describe and usually die if it even runs for more than a few seconds. The IAT sensor will be located in your air box on the drivers side.

You should also get the SES code and post it up, if you can drive it to any local parts store they will scan the code for you for free, or you can just go buy a ODB II scanner for pretty cheap.

Another thing I thought about, make sure your not sucking air past the MAF sensor, that will cause chaos for sure, and if you've messed with your o2 sensors at all and one of them isn't in right it will cause big problems too, i had mine installed in my mid length headers with no exhaust on and the air would flood back into the headers when the throttle wasn't open enough causing the pcm to read way too much air.

Doesnt a Flashing SES light mean a Misfire???? Check all the easy stuff 1st, Plug wires, looked for burnt or maybe unplugged one, then move on too coils. Best way is the AutoZone or O'rielys OBD2 check.

Get the codes, but I suspect the O2's.

Flashing SES means catalyst damage will happen if you don't get the fault fixed. You might have a vacuum leak. Check your rubber hoses, etc.

i have the intake off right now, im gonna see if a buddy of mine can pull the codes for me. I have noticed that on top end im geting what sounds like a exhaust leak from the motor, only when im flooring it on top end. then i was siting in traffic and the car just starting runing really rough. i pulled the intake but cant find anything obvious. it has a puffing sound when its running like its missing a spark plug but not that bad.

BilliumSS u were right. I just pulled the drivers side valve cover off and sure enough the #3 intake spring is broke in half. it came out in 3 peices just like urs did. Car has stock heads springs and cam. i rag it a little but only been to the strip maybe twice. thanks for ur help guys. I think the head might have to come off since i drive it home like that.
