As the title says, I am wanting to find out my build #, and how many hugger orange Camaros were built. Mine is a Z28, and I'm just curious. A picture of mine is below.

1402 hugger orange cars in 1999. Broken down into 1268 coupes and 134 convertibles. This is overall cars, not just Z/28.

This is the response I got from someone over at SLP performane parts after looking up my vin number. I know you have a Z28, but thought you would find this interesting. This makes my car, 1 of 75 built!!!! :usa: :headbang:

SLP build # is 3900, which is out of 4,817 total SS's built for that year. There were only 75 SS's that were hugger orange, automatic, and Ttop. I do not have the number that had the white leather interior.

As the title says, I am wanting to find out my build #, and how many hugger orange Camaros were built. Mine is a Z28, and I'm just curious. A picture of mine is below.

A friend of mine has a Hugger Orange Z/28 with T-Tops. It is an A-4.

According to Scott Settlemier, it was the Chevrolet Legends tour car in 1999 and early 2000.

When my friend purchased the car, the dealership told him that it was a GM executive car. When he looked through the glove box, there were some forms with Scott's signature on it. Since Scott e-mails me occasionally, I had his e-mail address. We sent him an e-mail asking if he knew anything about the car. He in turned e-mailed us back and asked us to supply him with the VIN #. After sending that back to him he informed us that it was one of the Chevrolet Legends tour cars in 1999 and early 2000. Scott said that when he first saw the car he liked it but thought it needed something so he had the black stripes added to it before he sent it out on the tour. He also told us that when the car came back off the tour he kept it himself for 3 or four weeks and drove it back and forth to work.

The link below is to a photo that was taken at the Berger Chevrolet All Chevy show in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Labor Day weekend (Sept. 2003) in front of the dealership.

Found this build sheet, same numbers as other I've seen:
http://www.f-bodyhideout.com/build_counts/1999.htm

I like this: Camaro SS 1LE with Automatic 1 Unit!
and it was Hugger Orange.

I totalled my '99 Hugger Z M6 gray leather t-top and have an A4 Orange Z with white leather and t-tops coming in this week from Chicago. After the car was totalled a co-worker asked what I was going to get. My reply was "a '99 hugger orange z-28". I love these cars, period.

My buddy bought the only Hugger SS that we got.
A4
T-Top
Now has around 120,000 miles
Cloth interior. Its still stock except for a K&N and a Raptor muffler.
Its been in the ditch once and hit 1 dog with it.
Interior is nasty and the clearcoat is flaking from the paint after the accident. Kinda makes me want to give him money for it so I can park it and start gettin it back to the good. He went to trade it in at a dealer and they told him like 6500 bucks for it. and he was gonna do it. :bang:

I'm not sure how you got the complete breakdown. But good for you! :) SLP and GM has told us over and over:

These build counts cannot be broken down any further than this (i.e. cannot calculate how many Z28 Convertibles were built in Pewter with a Dark Gray Leather interior).

One very nice and rare car you have there. :hail:

02-08-2005, 06:26 PM
I wouldn't worry about keeping the miles down unless you have a mint car with less than 5K miles on it and plan on keeping it forever. Look at the current musclecar market, the 100% restored ones sell for about the same price as original ones. In fact, the 100% restored cars are often times much nicer than original cars, since they are restored with far greater detail and attention. The factory didn't build them that good back then, or now.

Nice cars guys. I'm probably buying a 99 Hugger SS this week. We'll see!

Thanks, LOL I thought I already had started. Yea, I have a list, bolt ons mainly, till the extended warranty is done in another year. I think now that I have the Cat back on I'm going to go back to the intake side for awhile, put a new lid on the airbox, new MAF, TB, intake, then headers and a y pipe.

M6HuggerSS... what is it that makes your car 1 of 54 since there are 65 hugger hardtops. Is it the M6 or the tan leather? I'm curious since other than the tan leather we have the same car (I've got grey leather).

And for everyone who thinks they don't drive their car, I'll let you know when I finally get 11,000 miles on mine... yeah I know, its pathetic. If it counts for anything, part of the reason the miles are so low on the SS is that I've spent a lot of my "fun" time in my Firehawk (only 20K in it though). But as my wife will back up... when I'm driving them, I'm having fun!

i don't like being called a GARAGE QUEEN, but i only have 8700 miles on mine. i have a good excuse. i've been working out of the country on and off for the past 4yrs. i only get a few good months in to drive it.

Hey that's a perfectly good reason. Good to know that you drive it when you can. I wish I'd of gotten mine with less miles. But I just rolled 65k the other day, and I still think that's pretty low. I've had it 2 years and put 19k on it, but the first summer it got daily duty after my divorce because I needed a car and it was all I had. Now it just gets weekend duty mostly. I ran into a guy last year on the way to the Woodward ave dream cruise that had an 01 TA convertible with barely 4000 miles on it. I asked if he had just bought it, he said that he bought it new in 2000 and just never drives it. Its to those ppl I say "why?". My philosophy, keep it clean and taken care of, I can always rebuild the drivetrain when it wears out.

Its not that I don't want to drive the car, its more like I never have the time... between work and family, there's not a lot of spare time. If you worked where I work, you'd never even consider taking the car to work (which I don't since its so nasty), and until my daughter got big enough to ride in a booster seat (last year), it was too big of a pain to put the massive car seat in the car just to take a quick drive. And going for rides by myself and leaving my wife and kids at home is kinda stupid to me. So the car isn't used all that much. But it gets taken to the drag strip at least twice a year, autocrossed at least as much, and since I live near some of the most amazing roads you've ever driven (North Georgia mountains), it gets taken up for a tour of the mountains at least once every couple months... never EVER been in a car show. So what limited driving I do, is all fun driving. I'd rather have 10,000 miles of fun than 100,000 miles of commuting to work everyday. I agree that the cars should be driven, and while I'd love to drive mine more, taking it to the grocery store and other boring tasks is not what I have in mind for additional mileage.

Ok, just want to make it clear I'm not criticizing anybody, god knows I'd love it if my '99 had less than 10k, even 20k on it. And I totally understand being busy, I have taken mine to work 3 times this year, and that was only because it was on a saturday and my GF and I were going out that evening and she loves the Z as much as I do. I'm just saying I love any excuse I get to drive it somewhere and would go nuts not being able to drive mine.

I don't daily drive mine anymore either, that's what I bought the cavalier for. I'd rather put play miles on it that work miles. Mountains sound fun, We have some decent curvy roads here and there that I love to run on. Lol, I don't have time to do a car show, to much work, I just go to a couple a year and leave when I want to, lol.

Its cool... sometimes I get on myself about not using it too. Its easy to forget its out there in the garage calling my name when I'm up to my neck in "honey do" projects... all I'm saying is that someday (way way in the future probably), it'll be my time to have fun again LOL . And the SS will still be there waiting.

For now, everytime I do get it out of the garage and take it up through the gears, I can't stop grinning... so I understand the "I would go nuts not being able to drive it" comments. Its like therapy after a week of commuting in my econo-beater-crap-box.

I know where there is a Hugger vert, black top, white leather, not an SS or Z though. Probably a V6, its sitting on a used car lot.

I did run into a guy in springfield IL while I was on the hot rod power tour with a HO convertible ss but it had black top and black cloth seats.
