Default 4l60e's interchangeable from 1997-2000

my brother just blew his tranny in his 97 pickup and i was wondering if he could put a newer tranny in out of a wrecked truck. are there any differences in the trannies

1997 fullsize trucks were the last year for the 1-piece case. In 1998, GM switched to the 2-piece case in the fullsize trucks. These newer cases WILL bolt up the same, but you CANNOT get one from a GenIII engine (4.8, 5.3, 5.7 LS1, 6.0, etc...)
