Default AFR issue

The issue is the intake manifold will not go on, the holes do not line up.

The installer checked the the deck height per AFR instructions and it checked ok.
After sitting there pondering wtf was wrong, they noticed that the angle cut on the intake ports looked a little off. They measured the angles while still on the car, one was 72* and one was 69* They also measured across the center bolt holes on the the heads and the manifold and they did not match. The distance was greater across the center bolt holes on the heads.

Anyway, I need to start taking deep breaths

I would give Tony at AFR a call right away. I'm sure he would help get it straightened out. I talked to him after I bought my heads and cam and he helped answer a bunch of questions I had.

I got them about a week and half ago, from TSP.

The installer is going to call AFR tomorrow and I have E mailed Brian at TSP.

Hello everyone,

I'm using Tony's log in, as he is out of town and I don't have one. Spellbound, I wanted to respond to this as quickly as possible to let you know you have the support from AFR to solve this issue as quickly as possible. I saw this post pop up after everyone here had left for the day. Please call me tomorrow or have your installer call and ask for me. I'd like to have some more info such as:

1) Were the heads milled? If so, how much, and by whom.
2) Which intake manifold is being used? Which intake manifold seals?
3) Which head gasket is being used?

I'll do my best to get to the root of the problem and get you up and running as quickly as possible.

Thanks for your patience,

Guy Tripp

1) I ordered the heads unmilled.
2) Stock LS6 manifold. The car is a 2002 Z/28. I assume stock Gaskets.
3) Cometic head gaskets.

The installer will call tomorrow.

Thank you for your response.

Looks like things are working out. AFR wants us to ship back the heads so they can verify the problem before they replace.

Trust me, Tony and the rest of the folks at AFR really do care about getting everyone a good product.

Tony spent a lot of time on these heads and takes any and all issues or question very seriously. These heads and their success are near and dear to his heart.

If anyone ever has a question or an issue with AFR all you need to do is pick up the phone, and Tony will take care of it...

Hey there Guy...

If there's an immediate issue, you can send him a set you have scheduled for delivery to me to help him out...

Just don't charge me for them...

The same thing happened to me I called TSP and they said no one else complained. I had to modify my intake to make the manifold fit I was Pissed 2100 and the damn manifold didn't fit. I thought I screwed up but now that someone else had the problemm I know its not me.

I got the heads from TSP about 3 weeks ago Stock 205's. The only reason I forced the manifold on is becasue i needed to get my car back on the road becasue it is my daliy driver and i needed to get to work on monday. I found out the manifold didn't fit at 12:00 Sunday afternoon. Anyway you can get it to fit by slighty grinding the bottom of the bolt guides studs on the manifold. You hav to play with it until it will line up. Let me know how you make out. I have not had a chance to check if the manifold leaks. It does not leak at idle, and all th e bolts torqued down OK once I got them started.

Oh yeah does anyone know what MAP pressure should be around? I logged the car last night and it seemed low. I think it was around 8 PSI and I am only running a TR 224 cam. Is that normal???

IF TSP already knew of this problem, that is absolute BS!!!

$2100+ and the end-all of all heads does not fit.... that is crap!!!

In TSP's defense I was the only case they knew about as of the beginning of last week 9/18, and I was also not able to truly quantify the problem as spellbound has. I just notified TSP all the trouble I had to go through to get the manifold on.
