Default Best Cam for AFR 205 Heads

Looking for a smog legal cam that will be able to maximize the performance of a set of 205cc AFR heads.

Would like to do something in the range of a TR 224 with a 112 lobe if it will smog. Anyone have any input??

The cam that has the gotten the best results with those heads are as follows:

224/228 .581/.588 @114+1. Shaved the heads .024" and used Cometic .040" gaskets.

I hear it is Ca. smog legal on 91 octane.

Talk to Jason@TSP, they have a special. Call him don't email.

AFR has certainly made the 224/228 camshaft popular! It has been getting fantastic results, and we've sold quite a few of them in the AFR packages. We have the AFR 205 cylinder heads in stock and ready to ship, and we can get the 224/228 camshaft for you as well.

Feel free to call me at the number below or e-mail me at trevor@texas-speed.com if you have any questions.

Arkay, no PTV problems with that setup?

What is the compression ratio with that setup?

Does it require a great tune to avoid detonation problems?

What would the C/R be if they are not shaved?

Thanks... A fellow NJ'er (Pennsville)

I wanted a cam that would pas smog for use with my 205s. I called Tony Mamo and he suggested a Comp 220/224 .581/.581 115+2.

The installation of this stuff begins this week so I don't have any numbers or driving impressions yet.

Another dumb question. The 115+2, is that 2 degrees advance ground into the cam or are you installing it with 2 degrees advance? I don't see the "+n" on any vendor's online catalogs. Is it a custom grind?

Also, why purchase the cam with advance? Couldn't you get what you want out of computer tuning and avoid any detonation problems?

The cam is a custom grind. Tony at AFR had it done for me. The 2 degrees of advance are ground into the cam. The intake is on a 113 which puts the exhaust on a 117. Tony suggested installing the cam 2 degrees advanced. Since I am not using an adjustable timing set I had him have the advance ground into the cam.

I think that you are confusing cam advance with timing advance. Cam advance has to do with the cam intake and exhaust lobe events. Timing advance is relationship of the spark to the combustion cycle.

Any of the supporting vendors that deal in Comp Cams can do a custom grind for you. The price is the same as buying a normal grind. It takes about 10 days to get a Custom grind done.

Thanks VC5. Did Tony tell why he suggested the advance? Anything to do with your supercharger?
