Default Exhaust! Bolted or Welded?

When I had my exhaust put on they bolted it to the y pipe. No problems. When the same shop did my custom y pipe, they welded my Flowmaster merge to the TSP Rumbler and it has banged ever since. Is this the problem because I have looked under the car and cannot tell where it is hitting the floorpan. There is a brace that goes across the tranny and y pipe and I put spacers that lowered that about 3/4 inch, so I thought that would fix it but it didn't. Do our exhausts need to be bolted to the y pipe in order to provide enough flex so it won't bang? If so, can this be remedied without a new merge collector? Can they just cut the weld and put a band clamp in it's place? Any suggestions? Where else could it be banging? TIA

Nick

It needs to be hung just right, and welded means
no more adjusting (except by hanger drop).

I have seen banging, lessee... underside floor pan
bosses. X-member. Driveshaft (yoke and balance
weight). Panhard upper brace. Fuel tank heat shields.

Yeah I finally had to give in and have my ypipe to catback welded, kept blowing off the clamp
