Hey guys I posted this in the gears and what not section and couldn't get a answer so I thought I would try here.

I have a bolt on car which is my 1999 Camaro SS M6, I am getting a Moser 9" and would like to go 4.30 gears, my question is 4.30 gears overkill for a Bolt on car? Also I would Plan on raising my rev limiter to 6500 and run 27X10.5/15 ET Streets at the track would this be ok to do? I figured I would go through the traps at 6300 in 4th gear with the 27" tires. I am becoming addicted to dragracing alot, and want an 11 sec Bolt on car :)

I'll let you know in the spring, That's what I'm having put in my car when the 12 bolt goes in.

I don't see a problem with it as long as you have the clutch to support some 6,000+ rpm launches, which is wht you'll need to do to actually use that gear and that size tire..

I have spec stage 3 X-Pad so that shouldn't be a problem should it?

Yeah, good question. Sliver, you think that a spec 4I will withstand the occasional track trip, with some good hard lauches? I don't expect it to last forever, but hopefully alot longer than the stock z06 unit did........

Spec 4I will take that no problem. You could do clutch dumps on slicks everyday and that clutch would hold up. :D

ONGR, you'll be fine, but what flywheel do you have?

JL, hope you did the spec flywheel as well.

The spec billet f/w is key to these setups IMO, the clutch is great in itself, but doesn't work as well or hold up as well if you use a stock flywheel, seen it many many times.

My spec 3I with billet f/w has held up to a couple hundred 7,000 rpm launches on slicks so far this year and is still just fine.

I Have the Billit Steel one from Spec so I am no longer worried about it!! I cannot wait to go launch at 55000 RPM

Yes, I went with the billet flywheel too. I bought the whole kit, pilot bearing and throwout bearing too, not that mine are shot with a whopping 16K on them, but I figure while it's apart, I'll change them too. Spec is building the clutch now, should ship next week. I figured that it would take all kinds of abuse, that's why I went with it. The 12 bolt moser rear with 4.30's and all the other good internals, driveshaft, hal shocks, and wolfe rear sway bar are all also going on before spring, I'm hoping to see low 12's with teh power in my sig. If I can get the ar out of the hole, I'm sure that it will do it. I trapped at 108 + all 3 passes last time I went to the track, so I"m sure that with good launches, it should get there. Any one ever put over 500 rwhp to a spec 4I? I'm planning on doing the motor over next fall, and I figure that it will be right in that power range, hope it holds up to that.... there's not too many options left after a spec 4I....

Ok just to clarify.... you have a totally stock engine... no valve train mods???? AND you are going to set your red line at 6500 and shift at 6300??? Good fricking luck guy. How long do you expect the engine to stay together. A true stock engine??? I bent like 5 push rods hitting 6350, once.. can't even imagine on a daily/weekend basis.

So far as the 4.30 with bolt-on, M6. Yes you'll be fine. I ran mine for the last 2 seasons. Moser 12-bolt, 4.30 Strange gears. On engine only ran 26x10x15. Finish the traps right at 6200 (our actual red-line). My lowly single cevlar McCleod clutch held up fine to almost 400 5500rmp launches. If you don't have, get a 2-step from Harlan. You'll get a lot more consistent launches.

Good luck

Go with 28" and you should be okay. I have 4.33's and could not get my car to trap more than 110 when it was a bolt on car. Too much for the stock cam.
Works great with the G5X3

No, I am going to shift my stock engine at 5800RPM and go through the traps at probobly around 6300 RPM in 4th and let off, does that sound better? If I went to 6300 in every gear I would probobly run slower times there is no power up there with the stock cam.

Yep. You could even stretch it to 6000-6100 and you would be fine. If you shift at a couple hundred higher at low gears (2nd, 3rd) you may find you will finish through the traps closer to 6100-6200. And the 26" will still be OK. With 28" you may finish 2 low for your power band. I did use 28" with nitrous (100 shot) and still finished in the 6200 area through the traps.

I had the same set up and it worked good, put a set of valve springs in it and you can let the stock cam run out on top end.Get the 2 step like david says you won't regret it.

What were you going through the traps at as far as RPM? what did you set your rev limiter too? Also what Valve Springs did you use and did you do stronger Pushrods at the same time? Thanks for your help

What kindove times do you run with your setup?
