Gears & Axles - overgearing and undergearing

ok so i wanna go with a cam somewhere around 230/235 .580-.590 i have a 6speed car. are the 3.42's ok or should i go with some 3.73's?

nothing less that 4.10's in a 6speed car.

you have a 12 bolt or 9 inch? if not, don't waste your time
if you do, 4.56's if you plan on only going 124.... 4.30's if you plan on going faster :drive:

You should go with a much taller gear then a 3.42 in your M6. No lower then a 4.10. If i had a 6 speed I would have a 4.56. I would also wait until you have the money to buy a 12 bolt / 9" and get the gears then.

If you are going to get serious about running car on strip, I would get a 9 inch or even a 60 for it but if it will be mostly a cruiser with a occaisional run at the strip a 3.73 in current axle would be a good compromise.

im just worried about getting bucking from the cam with that low gear ratio in there. i might go with a different rear end eventually but im not sure.

That cam will be easier to live with with a 3.73 installed than with a 3.42 and still keep it a good cruiser (if you want to keep it that way) and a good overall compromise.
