Question Goodyear GS-D3 or Kuhmo Ecsta MX ?

Which do you guys prefer? Any and all experiences and inputs welcome.

These will be going on the front by the way, not the rear.

Thanks in advance,
Brian

I hear that those MXs are suppose to be good, but those GS D3s are suppose to be even better.

any particular reason why you would go with the GS-D3's? Just curious.

After having Kuhmos, I wish I spent the extra dough and bought something better . . don't get me wrong it's a good tire for the money.

I just bought the Kumho Escta MX for my SS. I neded up buying 285/40/17 instead of 275/40/17. The 285 was actually cheaper than the 275. I ended up buying them from tirerack since I never received a reply from Todd at discount tire.

As far as the tires, they're much better than the factory goodyears. The Kumhos are better in every area such as dry/wet traction, road noise and handling. I'm not familiar with the DS3, but I chose not to buy goodyear based on my past experience with them. IMO, they are overrated and overpriced. You can more for your dollar with other brands such as Kumho.

GS-D3s in 285/40-17 set me back $1200 for
four tires installed (I got the local tire place
to Internet price-match). Great wet traction,
better dry than my F1s (not hard to do there).
I don't know if I'd bother with them just for the
fronts, I never had any problem with the F1s for
cornering, just traction out back. In fact I've
been considering putting my other pair of rims
with F1s onto the front, and saving the GS-D3s
for rear rotation because the rear benefit is more
in my mind than any front improvement (maybe
I just do not push the cornering hard enough).

Anyway, the D3s are very nice, I have heard good
remarks about some of the Kumhos but have no
personal experience there, whether they're "good
for the price" or "just plain great".

I love my GSD3's. Loads quieter than the stock F1's, wet traction is outstanding and dry traction is simply insane for a street radial. My stock F1's went up in smoke after adding my H/C setup from a 1st gear roll. These D3's simply grip hard and all go, no tire spinning. Get them and you won't be disappointed.

For a street radial, do you think you can get by in winter with the GSD3's?

GS-D3's are insane in wet weather as well as dry. My car has trouble breaking them loose in 2nd in the rain. Can't do it at all in 3rd. Also these tires eliminate hydroplaning.

get the GSD3's...A local guy has the Ecsta MX's, and granted he has 40 rwhp on me, at the track he hits his rev limiter every time in 2nd because they simply will not catch.

I have the GS-D3's as well. Damn good tire, they only give way after you have put a lot of miles on them. I have almost 25,000 on a set and they still have life, don't handle as good in water as they use to. Brand new you could almost drive through a lake at high speed and still have traction. In winter they get a little easier to spin but as soon as the warm weather comes back they go back to biting hard.

So is the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 better than the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS? The GS is about $40-50 more than the GS-D3! From what i have read on them, i haven't seen any treadware difference, traction difference, or anything! The only difference i noticed was the tread design. Anyone have any ideas?

The F1 GS is the same OEM tire that came on your WS6. They are crap and should be $50-60 cheaper than the GSD3 just because of the fact they are crap. The GSD3 is a far superior tire to the F1 GS. MHO

See that's wierd. Every place I go to the GS's are about $30-40 more! Including tire rack, and discount. Why would that be?

More than likely because it's an OEM tire that comes on vehicle's from the factory. I've noticed this with the Goodyear GSA Wrangler tires that came stock on my 2000 Jeep TJ.

I have Kuhmo Ecsta MX's in 295/35R18 in the rear and they hook great. I think they are a great deal for the money. I have never run the goodyear so I couldn't tell you which is better, just that I am more than happy with my Kuhmo's

Oops I just read they are for the front. Mine work excellant in the rain also.

I have to agree! The F1 GS's came stock on my SS and they are junk compared to the GSD3's I have now. Wet and dry traction are WAY better and the GSD3's are cheaper also. I did a lot of research before buying my GS D3's. I think the GS D3's are THE best street radial you can run.

i agree with everything that was said above about gs-d3's. they wear pretty good too, i have about 20,000 miles on mine (including a few track passes and light burnouts at the track), and they still have plenty of life left. one of them just recently got a nail though unfortunately (too close to the sidewall to patch, no idea really on how it happened), so i may replace 2 of mine with drag radials.

[B]I would go with the Eagle F1 GS-D3 these tires are made in Germany and i have them on my TA. They are awesome handling dry and wet and dont wear as much as the stock Eagle F1. If you paid $1200 for a set you got hosed big time, www.tirerack.com has them for as low as $190 i've seen, they also have a comparitive chart on ratings and wear of other tires.
